Huawei Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design: World’s First Phone With LogicFolding Tau Chip Goes Official

Huawei just raised the tri-fold bar again. Unveiled in Guangzhou on September 7, the HUAWEI Mate XT 2 | ULTIMATE DESIGN becomes the first smartphone to run on the LogicFolding Tau (τ) Chip, pushing the chip into full mass commercialization. It’s a wing-like, dual-hinge marvel that folds from both sides — and it’s aiming squarely at the premium foldable crown just as rivals gear up their own launches.

What’s New in the Mate XT 2?

The phone debuts the Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, delivering a claimed 42% performance jump over its predecessor. It pairs a LinxiCore CPU and Maleoon GPU with on-device support for the Pangu 30B-A2B MoE large language model — a first for the industry. Add HarmonyOS 7’s Live-Multitask (three parallel windows), an industry-first foldable Smart Shield Privacy Screen, and IP58/59 water-and-dust resistance, and this is Huawei’s most engineered tri-fold yet. Camera and Design Highlights

The True-to-Color Camera 3.0 filters out infrared interference for a 95% jump in color accuracy, while the camera ring’s Star Diamond Glow design is hand-polished into 33 facets from Yttrium Crystal fired at 1,800°C. On the health front, it’s the first Huawei foldable with NMPA-certified ECG software, letting users take heart readings just by holding the unfolded screen. Curious how this stacks up against other trending foldable phone launches, TechnoSports has been tracking the format’s rapid evolution.

Why This Launch Matters

Huawei’s timing is deliberate — the Mate XT 2 lands just days before Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone debut, effectively setting the price and spec benchmark before competitors even show up. With this being Huawei’s third tri-fold generation, the company is clearly betting that deep chip-to-software integration, not just screen size, will define the next wave of premium foldables.
