He-Man Has the Power — But Does India? Masters of the Universe Opens to a Cautious ₹1.50 Crore on Day 1

Nicholas Galitzine and Jared Leto’s live-action fantasy arrives in Indian cinemas — and the opening is modest, but the weekend could change everything.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe finally has a live-action film, and it’s now playing in cinemas across India. Directed by Travis Knight and boasting a star-studded cast, the fantasy adventure had all the ingredients for a strong debut. The Day 1 numbers tell a story of cautious beginnings — but the weekend is still very much in play.

He-Man Day 1 Box Office: The Opening Numbers

The fantasy live-action film opened to ₹1.50 crore gross at the Indian box office on Day 1 — a low start, but not bad for a non-IP Hollywood film. The opening weekend is expected to close somewhere between ₹5–7 crore gross.

Star Cast: A Lineup Built to Impress

One thing He-Man and the Masters of the Universe doesn’t lack is firepower in the cast department.

The film is led by Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man and Prince Adam, with Jared Leto playing the menacing Skeletor and Idris Elba as Duncan (Man-At-Arms). The ensemble also includes Camila Mendes as Teela, Morena Baccarin as The Sorceress, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn — a combination of established Hollywood stars and beloved characters that has significantly raised anticipation around the film.

On paper, it’s an exciting lineup. Getting those stars on screen together in a live-action He-Man world has been something fans have waited decades for. According to Wikipedia’s overview of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, the franchise has been a cultural touchstone since the 1980s, with a deeply loyal global fanbase — making this live-action adaptation one of the most awaited fantasy films of 2026.

Can It Turn Things Around This Weekend?

Honestly — maybe. Hollywood films are having a great time at the Indian box office in 2026, with multiple non-IP films emerging as big surprise successes, with Obsession being the latest example of a film that became a sensation through strong word-of-mouth. However, early word-of-mouth for He-Man appears mixed, making a strong recovery less certain.

The film needs good weekend growth and strong long-term legs to justify its theatrical run in India. It’s not a lost cause — but it needs audiences to show up and spread the word fast.
