Vikram Bhatt’s latest horror venture “Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past” just had one of the WORST opening weeks in recent Bollywood history — collecting a dismal Rs 1 crore gross (Rs 1.3 crore net) in 6 days at the Indian box office!
For context, that’s less than what most Bollywood films earn in their FIRST SHOW. The 3D horror drama, which was expected to revive the franchise’s magic, has instead become a cautionary tale about nostalgia-driven sequels nobody asked for.
Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past – Box Office Breakdown
| Day | Collection (Net) | Trend |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 (Friday) | Rs 0.30 crore | Poor opening |
| Day 2 (Saturday) | Rs 0.35 crore | Slight jump |
| Day 3 (Sunday) | Rs 0.28 crore | Drop already? |
| Day 4 (Monday) | Rs 0.15 crore | Freefall |
| Day 5 (Tuesday) | Rs 0.12 crore | Barely surviving |
| Day 6 (Wednesday) | Rs 0.10 crore | Flatline |
| Total (6 days) | Rs 1.30 crore net | VERDICT: Disaster |
Why Did It Flop So Hard?
| Factor | Impact Level | Details |
|---|---|---|
| Zero star power | Extreme | No bankable names attached |
| Outdated 3D gimmick | High | Audiences moved past 3D years ago |
| Weak marketing | High | Minimal buzz before release |
| Franchise fatigue | Extreme | Original “Haunted” came out in 2011 |
| Competition | High | Bigger releases dominating screens |
| Poor reviews | Critical | Critics called it “dated and dull” |
The original Haunted 3D (2011) was actually a decent hit for Vikram Bhatt, riding the 3D craze that swept Indian cinema at the time. Fourteen years later, nobody was asking for a sequel — and the numbers prove it!
Vikram Bhatt Horror Track Record

The horror genre in Bollywood has evolved massively since Bhatt’s golden era — with films like “Stree” and “Tumbbad” raising audience expectations exponentially.
