Hardik Pandya Unfollows Mumbai Indians: It lasted barely an hour. But in the age of social media, an hour is more than enough time to start a fire that burns for days.

Sunday night, May 10, 2026. Mumbai Indians had just been knocked out of the IPL 2026 playoffs — officially eliminated by a gut-wrenching two-wicket defeat to RCB in Raipur. The franchise faithful were still processing the pain. And then, just as the dust was settling, India’s cricket internet did what it does best: it went completely nuclear over an Instagram follow count.

The Unfollow Heard Around the Cricket World

After MI’s defeat against RCB, Pandya unfollowed Mumbai Indians on Instagram, leading to immediate speculation around his future with the franchise. Multiple social media users shared screenshots showing Mumbai Indians missing from Pandya’s following list — and the brief social media activity was more than enough to send the internet into a frenzy about a potential rift.

But here’s where the story gets interesting. For a brief period after the RCB vs MI fixture, Hardik Pandya’s Instagram profile reportedly showed 150 accounts being followed and MI’s account was missing from the list. But only minutes later, fans noticed the number change to 151 and MI once again appearing in his followed accounts.

Gone. Back again. All within the same sleepless night.

Glitch, Frustration or Something Deeper?

Although Pandya hasn’t addressed the incident publicly, this might have been a technical glitch — which has been noticed on Instagram in the past — or even a fleeting moment of raw frustration after a season that has gone catastrophically wrong.

Let’s be honest though. The timing makes this impossible to completely dismiss. This wasn’t just any match. MI’s defeat against RCB sealed their elimination from IPL 2026, making them just the second team after Lucknow Super Giants to be knocked out of the playoffs race. A season that promised so much ended with a whimper — and Hardik was watching from the sidelines, sidelined by a back spasm, unable to even participate.

The Bigger Picture: Is This the End of Hardik’s MI Chapter?

The Instagram incident is just the most visible crack in what has been a fracturing relationship. Pandya became MI’s captain ahead of IPL 2024 by replacing Rohit Sharma — a decision that did not go well with many MI and Rohit’s fans, leading to significant backlash during that season both on social media and inside stadiums.

Now, with another poor season — 146 runs at an average of 20.85 and just four wickets at an economy of 11.9 — Pandya’s leadership has been under scrutiny from the very start of IPL 2026. And with the way things are going, there are real chances that we might not see Hardik in MI’s jersey come 2027.

One Instagram unfollow. One Instagram re-follow. Sixty-nine minutes of chaos. But the underlying question it raises about Hardik Pandya’s future at Mumbai Indians? That one isn’t going away anytime soon.
