Haaland Left Spider-Man on Read for Five Years — His Comeback Reply Is Pure Comedy Gold

Some apologies take a phone call. Erling Haaland’s took five years and a YouTube video. The Manchester City striker has finally responded to a Tom Holland DM that had been sitting unanswered since May 2021 — and the internet is loving every second of it.

How the Story Broke for Spider-Man?

The saga went public when Tom Holland appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and revealed he’d once messaged Haaland asking to grab dinner, after spotting him at the Monaco Grand Prix. He got nothing back — “not even a response, not an excuse,” Holland joked, calling it a “humbling experience.” Haaland later admitted he had no idea who Holland even was, since he doesn’t watch many movies and assumed the DM was from a random account.

The Reply That Made It All Worth the Wait

Once the clip went viral, Haaland couldn’t resist setting the record straight. He publicly replied:

“Dinner invitation accepted @tomholland2013. A little late 😅 Just name the place!”

Classic Haaland — deadpan, five years delayed, and instantly beloved by fans.

Why Fans Can’t Stop Talking About It

Part of the charm is the mismatch itself — one of football’s biggest strikers unknowingly snubbing one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, the actor who plays Spider-Man, one of pop culture’s most recognizable superheroes. It’s a reminder that fame doesn’t always cross industries, and that even A-listers get left on read sometimes.

Haaland’s easy humor off the pitch has become as much a part of his brand as his goal-scoring — something TechnoSports has tracked closely across his rise both in football and internet culture.

Whether the dinner actually happens is anyone’s guess, but for now, the internet has its new favorite celebrity crossover moment.
