Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) is becoming much more hype, and now, the topic of frame rate has come up ahead of its expected release. Regarding what performance we can expect from Grand Theft Auto 6, former Rockstar Games animator Mike York recently stated that the game will likely only be able to run at 30 frames per second (FPS) on consoles upon release due to the game’s high graphical fidelity.

GTA VI May Launch at 30 FPS, Leaked Info Reveals Frame Rate Concerns and New Business Model Strategy

York, who worked on Red Dead Redemption 2 and GTA V, questioned if GTA VI could even run at the widely accepted 60 FPS benchmark. According to him, while the game will apparently run at 30 FPS at launch with adjustments for fidelity, Rockstar would optimize the visual palette and target higher frame rates over time with future updates. In addition to gameplay issues, there have been rumors about the game’s business model as well.

Rockstar is going to put out two different versions of GTA VI — one for story mode and one for the incredibly popular GTA Online — claims leaker Tez2. This would mark a departure from Rockstar’s normal practice of including online modes with the core game. A standalone version of GTA Online with a significantly lower price would encourage those interested only in the game’s multiplayer features.

Linking to speculation that the base game could run anywhere from $70 to $100. Some fans are excited about the idea, but others are giving a warning about the price structure and frame rate limitations. Expectations for GTA VI remain very high and are now positioned to hit in the fall of 2025, much like GTA V at the peak of its time, and when it does release, many gamers expect it to be a game-changing experience for the open-world title in general, but those questions will remain on how Rockstar will address these technical and business-related items once the dust settles. The PC version might see some optimizations, too, so don’t be discouraged if you want to play it there.
