God of War Universe Is Expanding — Cory Barlog’s New Game Confirmed

It started with a LinkedIn profile. It’s now been corroborated by multiple insiders and it points to something genuinely exciting: Sony Santa Monica is building a brand new franchise inside the God of War universe, and Cory Barlog is leading it.

What We Know About the New God of War Franchise

The Leak, the Corroboration, and What It All Means

The story broke when a former Sony Santa Monica senior writer’s LinkedIn profile surfaced on ResetEra, describing her work as building “a new franchise within the God of War universe” — developing original characters, storylines, and lore. The profile has since been deleted, but screenshots are everywhere.

Insider NateTheHate quickly confirmed the report, adding that the lead character is expected to be Faye — the unseen but deeply felt presence who set the entire Norse saga in motion. Fellow insider Shpeshal Nick corroborated the gameplay description: more action-heavy, less contemplative than the Norse duology. Think less walking-and-talking, more kinetic combat.

Jason Schreier had previously noted the game would feel like a new IP even if it technically isn’t — and this leak fits that description perfectly. Sony appears to be taking the Marvel approach: one interconnected world, multiple franchises running in parallel. The plan reportedly mirrors what Sony sees as a God of War cinematic universe with many parallel stories and characters.

As TechnoSports has noted, God of War’s Amazon Prime Video series just entered production with Ryan Hurst as Kratos — making this simultaneous multi-format expansion feel very deliberate.

Christopher Judge has teased the game will be revealed “late Summer,” which points to a potential Summer Game Fest or State of Play announcement.
