What Is Fourth Wing About?

Set inside the brutal world of Basgiath War College — where there is only one rule: graduate or die — twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was always expected to live a quiet life. But she’s sent on an entirely different path when her mother, a general in the military, orders her to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become dragon riders, the elite of Navarre.

The book hit shelves in 2023 and quickly became a bestseller, winning positive reviews and a massive fan base that spread word on the BookTok segment of TikTok and beyond. The next two installments — Iron Flame and Onyx Storm — were also instant bestsellers.

Why This Team Is Such a Big Deal

Jordan’s Outlier Society actually snapped up the rights to The Empyrean series before Yarros had even published the first novel in May 2023, then brought it to Amazon — where it has been in development ever since.

Showrunner Meredith Averill put it best: “People don’t just read these books, they live in them. Fourth Wing is everything at once: the emotional stakes are sky high, the battles are epic, the power dynamics are thrilling, and underneath it there is so much humor and heart.”

Yarros herself gave the team a glowing endorsement: “These are people who understand what a story means to its readers, and they’re passionate about the book, which is why I trust them completely.” Deadline

Jordan told a packed Beacon Theatre crowd at the Amazon Upfront: “When the vision aligns, you’ve got to go big. That’s what Outlier and Amazon MGM Studios are doing together.” Gold Derby

This is part of Amazon’s broader “Page to Prime” initiative — the same path that produced Reacher, The Summer I Turned Pretty, and The Terminal List. For more streaming and entertainment updates, head over to Technosports.
