Gatta Kushthi 2 Proves Sequels Can Punch Above Their Weight

Wrestling with box office expectations? Gatta Kushthi 2 just pinned them down. Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi’s sports action drama has stormed theatres with a weekend haul that’s turning heads across the Tamil film industry.

Directed by Chella Ayyavu, the film crossed over ₹19 crore worldwide in just three days — a number that places it second only to Ratsasan among the biggest weekend openers in Vishnu Vishal’s career at the global box office.

The overseas number alone marks Vishnu Vishal’s biggest international weekend yet, showing the film’s reach extends well beyond domestic audiences. Positive word-of-mouth has kept momentum steady, and trade watchers expect the film to hold strong through weekdays, likely emerging as a clean hit.

What’s the Story About?

Gatta Kushthi 2 follows Veera, a stay-at-home husband supporting his wife Keerthi’s wrestling career. Years later, cracks appear in their marriage as the couple clashes over raising their daughter, Mathi Malar, who shows little interest in academics or sports — putting both their relationship and Keerthi’s athletic ambitions to the test.

The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunas, Munishkanth, Kaali Venkat, and Lizzie Antony in supporting roles.

Kushti, or Indian wrestling, has deep cultural roots across the subcontinent — a tradition you can explore further on Wikipedia.
