Not every sequel manages to out-earn the film that came before it — but Gatta Kushthi 2 just did exactly that. The Tamil sports drama, led by Vishnu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi, has officially closed its theatrical run, and the final numbers mark the biggest box office moment of Vishnu Vishal’s career.

Gatta Kushthi 2: The Numbers That Made History

Gatta Kushthi 2 wrapped its lifetime run at Rs. 45.50 crore worldwide, comfortably surpassing Vishnu Vishal’s previous best, Ratsasan. Positive word-of-mouth kept the film steady through its run, and trade watchers believe a couple more open weeks could have pushed it past the Rs. 50 crore mark.

Region	Collection
Tamil Nadu	Rs. 36.50 crore
Rest of India	Rs. 3.50 crore
India Total	Rs. 40.00 crore
Overseas	Rs. 5.50 crore (~USD 575K)

A Sequel That Delivered

Directed by Chella Ayyavu, the film follows Veera, a stay-at-home husband supporting his wrestler wife Keerthi’s career, as the couple later clashes over raising their daughter, who shows no interest in sports. That family-meets-sports drama format taps into the broader appeal of the sports film genre, which has long resonated with global audiences for blending personal stakes with competitive tension — a storytelling tradition explored in detail on Wikipedia.

The film also features a strong supporting cast including Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Karunas, and Munishkanth, rounding out a story that clearly connected with viewers across Tamil Nadu and beyond.
