Some sequels tease a return to the familiar. Frozen 3 is promising something bigger — a royal wedding, a snowman in love, and a brand-new villain waiting in the icy wild beyond Arendelle. After years of speculation, Disney used D23 2026 to finally confirm what fans have hoped for since Kristoff dropped to one knee at the end of Frozen 2.

A Wedding Years In The Making

At the end of Frozen 2, Kristoff finally worked up the nerve to propose to Anna after an entire film of failed attempts. That long-awaited “yes” is now paying off in a big way: Disney confirmed at D23 that Anna and Kristoff’s wedding will be a central part of Frozen 3’s story. Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell took the stage together to share the news, with Bell teasing that Anna and Elsa are heading into their biggest adventure yet.

The celebration doesn’t stay peaceful for long, though. First-look footage shows the wedding taking place far from Arendelle, in a wild, icy landscape, before a mysterious new villain interrupts the festivities, declaring an ominous introduction to “the sisters of Arendelle.” Her identity and motives remain closely guarded secrets for now.

Olaf Finally Finds Love

Fans have waited since Frozen 2 for answers about a certain mystery — remember Olaf calling out for “Samantha” in the Enchanted Forest before laughing it off? That throwaway joke is finally getting a payoff. Olaf will have his own romantic subplot in Frozen 3, complete with a love interest named Samantha. Josh Gad even performed a playful love song dedicated to her during the D23 reveal, adding a lighthearted counterbalance to the film’s darker new threat.

What Else We Know

The core voice cast returns in full: Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff, and Josh Gad as Olaf. Jennifer Lee, who co-directed the original film and has shaped the franchise’s story from the start, returns to direct alongside Trent Correy. Songwriting duo Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, the pair behind era-defining tracks in the first two films, are back to compose the music once again.

Interestingly, Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 are reportedly being developed together, suggesting Disney is treating this as a two-part finale designed to resolve some of the franchise’s longest-running mysteries.

When Can You Watch It?

Frozen 3 arrives in theaters on November 24, 2027, continuing the franchise’s tradition of Thanksgiving-week releases. A streaming date hasn’t been confirmed, but given Disney’s pattern with past releases, it’s expected to eventually land on Disney+ after its theatrical run concludes.

Between a royal wedding, a new snowman romance, and a villain who already knows exactly who she’s after, Frozen 3 is shaping up to be the franchise’s most emotionally charged chapter yet — and the wait until late 2027 just got a lot harder.
