From a Shaky Start to a Weekend Comeback: Can “Vibe” Still Save Its Opening Run?

A slow Friday doesn’t always spell disaster — sometimes it’s just the setup for a Saturday recovery. Vibe, the Kunal Kemmu-directed action comedy, is showing signs of life at the Indian box office, climbing on Day 2 after a soft opening and now eyeing a stronger finish over the weekend.

A Slow Start, But Building Momentum

Vibe opened on a muted note, collecting just Rs 1.80 crore nett on its first day — a number that suggested limited early buzz for the film. However, Saturday brought a noticeable uptick, with collections growing to an estimated Rs 2.70 crore, pushing the two-day total to Rs 4.50 crore. That growth pattern is exactly what trade watchers look for after a weak Friday, since a rising Saturday often signals positive word-of-mouth kicking in.

If the momentum carries into Sunday, the film could realistically close its opening weekend around the Rs 7.50 crore mark — a respectable, if not spectacular, start for a mid-scale theatrical release.

What’s “Vibe” Actually About?

The film follows best friends Hardik and Bugs, whose lives spiral into chaos after a disastrous planetarium date pulls them into a secret operation run by the mysterious Madam H. Their journey takes them from Mumbai to Bangkok, with the story leaning on the duo’s clumsy decision-making, quick thinking, and contrasting personalities to drive both the comedy and the action.

Kunal Kemmu wears multiple hats here, directing, writing, and co-producing the film alongside starring in the lead role. He’s joined by Sparsh Shrivastava, Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma, and Dinesh Lal Yadav in key supporting roles.

Why the Second-Day Bump Matters

In Indian theatrical releases, a film’s trajectory across its first weekend often determines its overall run more than the opening day itself. A rising Saturday, especially after a soft Friday, typically points to favorable audience reception translating into word-of-mouth growth — a pattern well documented across Bollywood box office trends, where weekend growth curves are frequently used to gauge a film’s real staying power beyond opening-day hype.

Whether Vibe can sustain this into a longer theatrical run will likely depend on how it performs once the weekend rush fades and it heads into weekday collections.
