Vibe Box Office: A Discount-Day Bump Can’t Hide a Flop

Sometimes a small spike is just that — small. “Vibe,” Kunal Kemmu’s spy-comedy, picked up a modest 25% jump on its first discounted Tuesday, but the numbers tell a story that discount pricing alone can’t rewrite: this one’s headed for the flop column.

The film added Rs 1 crore on Tuesday, pushing its five-day India total to Rs 9.10 crore net. At this pace, its opening week is expected to close somewhere between Rs 10.50 and 11 crore — a genuinely low number for a theatrical release, even a modest one.

Why It’s Struggling Vibe ?

Directed by Kunal Kemmu himself, “Vibe” has run into mixed word-of-mouth since release, and that’s proven to be its biggest obstacle. Films with shaky reviews rarely recover momentum once the opening weekend passes, and that pattern is playing out here in real time. The only silver lining, if you can call it that, is that “Vibe” is still outperforming fellow September release “Daayra,” which has fared even worse.

Trade estimates now suggest the film’s entire theatrical run will wrap around Rs 20 crore — a number that firmly places it in flop territory for a full-scale theatrical release.

What Vibe Is About

The film follows two best friends, Hardik and Bugs, whose ordinary lives spiral into chaos after a disastrous planetarium date pulls them into a covert operation led by the mysterious Madam H. Their journey takes them from Mumbai to Bangkok, mixing clumsy decisions with genuine friendship as they try to survive a mission far beyond their experience. The cast includes Sparsh Shrivastava, Preity Zinta, Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma, and Dinesh Lal Yadav.

Conclusion

“Vibe” belongs to the spy-comedy genre, a format that blends humor with high-stakes espionage tropes — a subgenre with roots stretching back decades in global cinema, closely tied to the broader tradition of spy fiction. While the genre has produced hits elsewhere, weak critical reception often proves fatal for films that lean heavily on tone and pacing rather than star power alone.
