FIFA World Cup 2026 will be on YouTube: First 10 mins of every match and some Full matches will be broadcasted for FREE!

The biggest sporting event in the world just got a digital upgrade that could change how a billion fans watch football forever.

For years, watching the FIFA World Cup meant hunting down the right broadcaster, hoping your cable package covered it, or — let’s be honest — finding a dodgy stream at 3 AM. That era is officially changing. On March 17, 2026, FIFA announced a landmark deal naming YouTube as its “Preferred Platform” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup — and for football fans across the world, this is genuinely big news.

YouTube x FIFA World Cup 2026 — The Key Details

What the Deal Actually Means

This is more than a branding arrangement — it’s a structural shift in how the World Cup reaches its audience. The deal lets rights-holding broadcasters stream game action live on YouTube, which offers global access to young viewers. FIFA has announced this as a “game-changing partnership” that encourages World Cup rights holders to broadcast the first 10 minutes of every game — essentially an appetizer encouraging fans to then migrate to traditional channels.

But the headline benefit goes further. Broadcasters will also be able to stream a select number of matches in full on their YouTube channels, engaging global audiences and promoting where to watch more of the competition. For fans in markets where broadcast access is expensive or restricted, that’s a genuine lifeline.

FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström welcomed the deal, saying it would spotlight premium FIFA content and unlock new opportunities for media partners and creators, engaging global fans in ways never seen before.

FIFA+ on YouTube — Already Free, Now Even Bigger

FIFA+ on YouTube is free worldwide — it streams select live matches and all highlights at no cost, making it the best global backup for fans whose local broadcaster does not carry a specific match.

On top of that, FIFA has pledged to share its World Cup archive on YouTube, including full-length past matches and many iconic moments in the sport’s history. For a generation that grew up on YouTube — not cable TV — this is how the World Cup was always meant to be delivered.

The Bigger Picture: A 48-Team World Cup, Maximum Reach

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is the first to feature 48 teams, making it the biggest edition in history. With 104 matches spread across three co-host nations sharing duties for the first time, the sheer scale of coverage demanded a digital infrastructure to match. YouTube — with over 2.5 billion monthly users — is that infrastructure.

For traditional broadcasters, the deal is a partnership, not a replacement. In the US, FOX Sports will air 70 of the 104 matches free over broadcast television, with every match streaming in 4K on FOX One. YouTube amplifies that reach, not replaces it.

The World Cup has always been football’s greatest stage. Now, for the first time, it will also have the world’s biggest screen.
