FernGully Never Stood a Chance: ‘Mortgully’ Release Date Locked In

Rick and Morty Season 9 heads into its back half this Sunday, and episode 7 is taking direct aim at a childhood classic. “Mortgully: The Last Rickforest” — the show’s chaotic riff on FernGully — drops this weekend, and here’s everything to know before it airs.

Mortgully: Overview

What’s the Episode About?

True to Season 9’s habit of riffing on beloved films — Rick Fu Hustle for Kung Fu Hustle, Erickerhead for Eraserhead — this one takes on the 1992 animated eco-fable FernGully. Expect Rick clashing with a magical alien forest, with fan theories ranging from him bulldozing the ecosystem out of pure convenience to Morty siding with the woodland creatures against his own grandfather.

Coming Off “Erickerhead”

Episode 7 follows directly after Rick’s head-and-body reunion in Episode 6, where the two halves fought before quietly reconciling. That episode leaned hard into Rick and Morty’s communication, and early buzz suggests episode 7 will keep exploring that dynamic through another high-concept, standalone adventure.

The Cast Returns

Ian Cardoni voices Rick, with Harry Belden as Morty, alongside Sarah Chalke, Chris Parnell, and Spencer Grammer rounding out the Smith family. The show continues its 10-episode run, one of many seasons secured under the long-term renewal deal that keeps Rick and Morty going through Season 12.
