Farah Khan Once Jokingly Blamed Ayan Mukerji’s Father for Making Her Family Poor — Here’s the Hilarious Story Behind It

If you’ve ever wondered what happens when two industry kids swap stories over sabudana khichdi, this is it. Farah Khan and Tanishaa Mukerji recently got together for a candid cooking vlog, and what followed was a delightfully raw conversation about Bollywood’s golden era, family struggles, and box office heartbreaks.

Farah Khan Vlog That Got Everyone Talking

The episode started with Tanishaa giving Farah a tour of her traditionally decorated home before the two cooked together. But it was their terrace conversation about personal struggles and old memories that really hit home.

What Farah Actually Said

During the vlog, Farah joked that veteran actor Deb Mukerji was responsible for her family’s financial downfall. Her father had produced his first big colour film featuring Deb Mukerji in the lead — and when it flopped on a Friday, the family went broke by Monday.

She told Tanishaa directly: “Because of your uncle (Deb Mukerji), we became poor.” It was said with laughter, of course, but the story behind it was real — in that era, filmmakers often invested their own personal money into productions, with no studio safety net to fall back on. One flop could genuinely wipe out a family’s finances overnight.

Tanishaa Could Relate — Completely

What made the conversation even more touching was Tanishaa’s response. She revealed her own family went through the exact same cycle — periods of abundance followed by years of financial struggle, all depending on whether her father Shomu Mukerji’s films succeeded. He produced several Hindi films over the years including Pathar Ke Insan, Lover Boy, and Chaila Babu.

Two industry families, two parallel stories — separated by years but deeply connected by the same Bollywood unpredictability.

What’s Next for Farah Khan?

On the work front, Farah is reportedly in strong discussions for a reunion with Shah Rukh Khan after nearly 12 years, with Main Hoon Na 2 being a frontrunner for their next collaboration. Exciting times ahead!
