F-Rank To SSS-Class: “SSS-Class Revival Hunter” Anime Adaptation Confirmed For January 2027

If you’ve been following the wildly popular webcomic scene, brace yourself — “SSS-Class Revival Hunter” is officially getting the anime treatment. Crunchyroll has confirmed the series will premiere in January 2027, and the newly dropped teaser trailer already has fans buzzing about Gongja Kim’s rise from rock bottom.

This adaptation brings one of Korea’s most talked-about webcomics to screen, and based on the first details revealed, it’s shaping up to be a must-watch for hunter-genre fans.

What’s The Story About?

The series follows Gongja Kim, a weak F-rank Hunter living in the shadow of the powerful Flame Emperor. In a world where a mysterious monster-filled tower draws Hunters chasing glory and riches, Gongja’s fortunes shift dramatically when he crosses paths with the enigmatic Sword Emperor. The catch? He gains a rare S-rank skill — but activating it requires him to die first.

It’s a premise that blends the tower-climbing progression fantasy popular in Korean web fiction with genuinely high emotional stakes, making it easy to see why the source material built such a dedicated following.

The Teaser Trailer Sets The Tone

The newly released teaser gives fans their first real look at Gongja’s world — his quiet envy watching top-tier Hunters, a mysterious glowing card hovering above him, and the Sword Emperor silently observing from the shadows. It’s a moody, atmospheric opening that leans into the underdog-turned-powerhouse arc the genre is known for.

This kind of “weak protagonist gains overwhelming power” storyline sits within the progression fantasy subgenre, which has surged in popularity across web novels and manhwa in recent years. You can read more about how this narrative style developed on Wikipedia’s progression fantasy overview.

Where The Story Originally Comes From

For readers who want to get ahead of the anime, the original webcomic is available now on both Tapas and KakaoPage, giving fans a chance to dive into Gongja’s full journey before the January premiere.
