“Esports World Cup: Level Up,” the docuseries directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker R.J. Cutler, is set to premiere its second season on Prime Video on June 26. All five episodes will be released simultaneously, offering an in-depth look at the players, clubs, and personal narratives from the 2025 Esports World Cup.

The series, produced by This Machine (a Sony Pictures Television company), with Cutler, showrunner John Dorsey, and executive producers Jane Cha Cutler, Trevor Smith, Elise Pearlstein, and Mark Blatty returning, adopts a vérité-style approach. It aims to capture the dedication, stakes, and rising prominence of top competitive gamers.

Esports World Cup: Focus on Player Journeys and Competition Stakes

Season two of the five-part docuseries chronicles the human stories behind one of the world’s most significant esports events. Filmed in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, during the seven-week 2025 tournament, it documents the pursuit of the $70 million prize pool and the EWC Club Championship. The narrative explores individual journeys where single matches can impact careers, and a season can define a club’s trajectory.

Key player storylines featured in the series include:

* **Magnus Carlsen (Team Liquid, Chess):** The renowned chess grandmaster’s transition into esports and the new challenges he faces.

* **Jake “Boaster” Howlett (Fnatic, VALORANT):** His journey from aspiring actor to a top contender, highlighting resilience through personal and professional obstacles.

* **Xiao Hai (KuaiShou Gaming, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves):** A reigning champion who began competing at age six, now balancing global competition with family life.

* **Vivi “Vivian” Indrawaty (Team Vitality, MLBB):** Her efforts to overcome recent setbacks and childhood trauma while competing for substantial prizes.

* **Garidmagnai “bLitz” Byambasuren (Mongolz, Counter-Strike):** The rise of a grassroots Mongolian team to national recognition, symbolizing perseverance.

* **Kasimili “Soka” Tongamoa (Team Falcons, Call of Duty: Warzone):** The reigning champion navigates rivalries and personal challenges.

* **Coach ArSy (Team Liquid, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang):** A look at the coaching perspective, drawing on a difficult upbringing to inspire his team.

Filming for the series extended beyond Riyadh, with crews traveling to the U.K., U.S., and Indonesia for at-home visits to capture the personal dimensions of the players’ lives.

Cutler commented that the new season deepens the exploration of esports as “a global phenomenon that is as much about human ambition and identity as it is about competition.” Cutler noted that the series aims to chronicle not only the tournament but also the lives, aspirations, and sacrifices of the players, revealing a world that is both intensely personal and globally resonant.
