Epic: First Semester Twitter Review — Here’s What Audiences Really Think of Anand Deverakonda’s New Romantic Drama

Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya’s romantic drama Epic: First Semester hit theatres on September 11, 2026, and social media wasted no time sharing verdicts. If you’re deciding whether to catch it this weekend, here’s a quick roundup of what viewers on X are saying.

Mixed Reactions Pour In

Reactions to Epic have been sharply divided. One viewer appreciated that the film reflects director Aditya Haasan’s personal perspective, calling him one of the few Telugu filmmakers who genuinely expresses himself through his work — though they admitted the story wasn’t quite their taste.

On the other end, some reactions were far harsher, with one user rating the film just 1 out of 5 and criticizing both the overall execution and Anand Deverakonda’s performance.

Not everyone agreed, though. Several viewers singled out the film’s second half for praise, especially the emotional father-son moments, and called out Hesham Abdul Wahab’s music as one of its strongest elements alongside the lead pair’s chemistry. Others enjoyed the first half specifically, describing it as fun and well-paced, with solid comic timing and good chemistry between the leads — enough to call it a decent watch overall.

What Epic: First Semester Is About

The film follows Aditya, a middle-class young man torn between his dream of becoming a filmmaker and his traditional family’s push for him to pursue higher education in London. While adjusting to life abroad, he navigates cultural shifts, financial pressure, and the weight of family expectations.

During college, Aditya meets Kadali, and the two eventually decide to move in together. However, their differing views on relationships — she values independence and clear boundaries, while he craves deeper emotional connection — create tension that shapes the story’s core conflict.

Epic: Overview

Anand Deverakonda continues to build a filmography rooted in coming-of-age and relationship-driven stories, following in the footsteps of Telugu cinema’s growing appetite for realistic, character-focused romantic dramas.
