England women set for £1 million bonus if they can defend World Cup crown

England women could be set for their biggest ever payday, with £1 million in prize money available if they are able to beat rivals Australia in the finals of the Women’s World Cup.

Unlike with the men’s team, the England Cricket Board will be distributing all the money to the players if their women’s team is able to bring home the trophy. Since England won the trophy at Lord’s in 2017, the prize money has been doubled to £2.65 million. And all the money would be handed down to the players if they can win.

England set for massive payday if they can win the World Cup

The average salary in the 15-player squad for the World Cup is around £75,000. And now, they can double their salaries with a win against their rivals.

The men’s team earned around £5 million in total, but much of that is paid out as higher salaries. The average contract for the men’s team is worth £300,000 with a bonus of £5,000 for making an appearance.

Interestingly, England have never defended their Women’s World Cup crown. And, the two teams are facing off against each other for the first time since 1988, back when women’s cricket was played wearing skirts.
