Let’s have a look at the highlights of the match: England vs Sri Lanka World Cup 2023

Jos Buttler won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to post a competitive total on the board. However, things quickly unravelled for England as Sri Lanka’s veteran Angelo Mathews struck early, taking his first ODI wicket in over three years. England’s top order, including Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, and Jos Buttler, faltered, leaving them struggling at under 16 overs.

A partnership between Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali briefly steadied the ship, but Sri Lanka’s fielding brilliance, epitomized by Sadeera Samarawickrama’s stunning catch to dismiss Chris Woakes, left England’s hopes hanging by a thread. England was eventually bowled out for a paltry 156 runs in 33.2 overs.
