Elden Ring Boss Strategy Guide for Defeating Malenia Blade of Miquella

Elden Ring: Preparation and Loadout

To beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella, you need to prepare before stepping into the boss arena. Since she heals with every hit, focusing on high-damage output or status effects like Bleed or Frostbite can really help you bypass her defenses.

Elden Ring: Recommended Weapons and Armor

Using weapons that can stagger her is crucial because she’s surprisingly easy to knock off balance. We recommend the Rivers of Blood katana or the Blasphemous Blade. Both provide solid reach and impressive damage.

When it comes to armor, pick a set that offers strong physical and thrust protection while still letting you perform a medium roll. With the game boasting a 96/100 score on Metacritic for PlayStation 5, you can bet the mechanics are tight. Make sure your equipment weight enables quick, responsive movement.

Essential Consumables and Buffs

You’ll want every advantage in your inventory. Summoning the Mimic Tear or Black Knife Tiche as a Spirit Ash can really help distract her, giving you a chance to attack while she targets your ally. IGN confirms this strategy.

Always keep Boiled Crab or defensive talismans like the Dragoncrest Greatshield Talisman equipped. They can help mitigate her devastating physical combos. If you’re having trouble timing her Waterfowl Dance, make sure you’ve got Freezing Pots on hand to throw; they can knock her out of the air instantly.

Combat Strategies

Getting a feel for the rhythm of this fight is key. Malenia is faster than nearly every other threat in the Lands Between. You’ll need to learn to read her telegraphs before she unleashes her most lethal moves. For more details, check out Destructoid.

Understanding Malenia’s Attack Patterns

Her most dreaded move is the Waterfowl Dance, a multi-hit flurry that can wipe out most players in seconds. If you see her start to rise into the air, run away immediately or use a shield with Barricade Shield to absorb the first hits.

In her second phase, she ramps up the aggression, frequently using the Scarlet Aeonia bloom attack. Wait for the flower to fade before you close the distance; the lingering rot damage will drain your health fast.

Timing and Dodging Techniques

Staying close enough to punish her recovery frames while avoiding her quick slashes is crucial for survival. Resist the urge to panic-roll; her delayed swings are designed to catch players who roll too soon.

If you find yourself backed into a corner, use the environment to create some space and reset your stamina. Patience is your best friend here. Trading hits with her only lets her heal more than you can damage her.

As you gear up for the challenges in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, mastering these basics will set you up for the even tougher encounters that lie ahead in the Land of Shadow.

We suggest weapons that inflict Bleed or Frostbite, like the Rivers of Blood katana or the Moonveil. These status effects can really chip away at her health.

You can’t completely stop her healing, but you can minimize it by avoiding blocked hits and using high-stagger attacks to interrupt her healing moments.

What are common mistakes to avoid in this fight?

The biggest mistake players make is panic-rolling or trying to trade blows. Always respect her hyper-armor and focus on dodging her multi-hit combos instead of landing that extra attack.

How can I effectively use summons during the battle?

Using a high-health summon like the Mimic Tear can help split her attention. While she’s focused on your summon, attack her from behind to maximize your damage. Elden Ring
