Fresh off the Kolkata Derby, East Bengal FC face a very different kind of test as they take on the Armed Forces side CISF Protectors in their second Group A outing of the Durand Cup.
East Bengal FC vs CISF Protectors: Match Overview
East Bengal FC vs CISF Protectors kicks off on July 31, 2026, at 7:30 PM IST at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata. The fixture falls in Group A of the Durand Cup, Asia’s oldest football tournament, which this year features its 135th edition. Fans following India’s football calendar on TechnoSports know Group A has been the tournament’s marquee draw, thanks to the presence of both Kolkata giants.
East Bengal’s Path Into This Fixture
The Red and Gold Brigade open their Durand Cup campaign against archrivals Mohun Bagan SG on July 25 in the tournament’s headline Kolkata Derby, before turning attention to CISF Protectors just six days later. As reigning ISL champions currently sitting top of the Indian Super League table, East Bengal enter this tournament as strong favourites to add another Durand Cup title to their trophy cabinet, though the club is also navigating a coaching transition following the departure of Oscar Bruzon.
Who Are CISF Protectors?
CISF Protectors represent India’s Central Industrial Security Force, one of several Armed Forces sides competing in this year’s tournament alongside squads from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. While they enter as clear underdogs against an ISL title-winning side, Durand Cup fixtures involving Armed Forces teams have historically produced spirited, disciplined performances that make for closer contests than the form book suggests.
