EA Sports FC Correctly Predicts the World Cup Winner for the Fifth Consecutive Time

Spain’s coronation as World Cup champions wasn’t just a triumph for Luis de la Fuente’s golden generation — it was also, remarkably, another win for a video game. EA Sports has now correctly predicted the World Cup winner five tournaments running, and this year’s success story starts with a genuinely historic Spanish campaign.

A Near-Perfect Tournament

Spain’s only blemish was a 0-0 opening draw against Cape Verde, a game they dominated despite failing to score. From there, “La Roja” reeled off seven straight wins, scoring 14 goals while conceding just once — making them the only champions in the tournament’s 23-edition history to lift the trophy having allowed a single goal. The win also stretched Spain’s unbeaten run to 38 matches across all competitions, the longest streak ever recorded by a men’s European national team.

The Individual Honours

Rodri’s Golden Ball win places him among just seven players in history to claim the World Cup, Ballon d’Or, Champions League and a continental title. Cubarsí, meanwhile, became the fourth-youngest World Cup winner ever, behind only teammate Lamine Yamal, Giuseppe Bergomi and Pelé.

EA Sports’ Uncanny World Cup Winner Prediction Streak

Days before kickoff, EA Sports ran a full simulation of the tournament using EA Sports FC 26, posting its Spain prediction on June 6 — five days before a ball was kicked. The call extends a streak that began with Spain’s 2010 title, followed by Germany (2014), France (2018) and Argentina (2022).
