DC fans just got a clear answer to a confusing question. Dynamic Duo, the animated film about Jason Todd and Dick Grayson, is officially part of the Elseworlds banner, not the main DCU canon. It also has a new release date.
For studio background, see DC Studios on Wikipedia.
Dynamic Duo : Overview
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Classification | Elseworlds (non-canon) |
| New release date | September 22, 2028 |
| Previous date | June 30, 2028 |
| Story | Centers on Batman allies Jason Todd and Dick Grayson |
| Voice cast | Logan Kim (Jason Todd), Mason Thames (Dick Grayson) |
Why the Confusion?
Gunn said from the start that Dynamic Duo would be Elseworlds. Still, rumors spread in recent weeks that it might join the main DCU, with one report even claiming the voice cast would reprise their roles in live-action. Logan Kim shut that down with a flat “No” in an Instagram comment, though that fan post has since been deleted.
The DC Studios setup makes the mix-up easy to understand. It has two labels: the DC Universe for canon films and shows, and Elseworlds for non-canon stories.
Canon vs Elseworlds: Guide
| Label | What It Means | Example |
|---|---|---|
| DCU | Shared, connected continuity | Superman (2025) |
| Elseworlds | Standalone, non-canon takes | The Batman universe, Dynamic Duo |
The Batman Part II Update
Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II also remains Elseworlds and is set for February 18, 2028, after several date shifts. Production began in June, but DC Studios confirmed this week that filming has temporarily paused while Reeves focuses on a family matter. Deadline sources say it’s too early to know whether the date will be affected, so treat the 2028 date as subject to change.
More Elseworlds on the Way
| Project | Format | Quick Note |
|---|---|---|
| Absolute Batman | Animated series | Reimagines Bruce Wayne as a working-class kid from Crime Alley |
| Joker: Laugh Riot | Anime series | Joker hunts Batman’s killer |
| My Adventures with Green Lantern | Animated series | Follows Jessica Cruz; still in development |
| Starfire | Animated series | Koriand’r’s origin story |
| DC Super Powers | Animated series | Young heroes at a school led by Martian Manhunter |
| Krypto series | Animated series | The super-dog with a group of young schemers |
What Should Fans Do Now?
- Don’t expect crossovers. Dynamic Duo stands on its own.
- Watch for date shifts. Production pauses can ripple into release schedules.
- Try the animated slate. Several Elseworlds shows may arrive before the 2028 films.
