Let’s be honest: the MCU’s post-credits scenes have felt hit or miss lately. Cameos, shock moments and teasers that never went anywhere had replaced the old “stay till the end” magic. Then Avengers: Endgame Encore arrived, and one mid-credits scene reminded everyone what a great stinger can do.

For film background, see Avengers: Endgame on Wikipedia.

Avengers: Endgame: Scene

Detail	Info
Film	Avengers: Endgame Encore (the re-release)
Characters	Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and Doctor Doom
What happens	Doom magically enters Banner’s hideout and takes him
Sets up	Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars

What Actually Happens?

Banner has been hiding in self-containment underground beneath a military base since the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, working on a gamma suppression serum. Then Doctor Doom appears and collects him. His reasons stay unexplained for now.

The “Three S” Test

The Direct’s writer judges a great stinger by three qualities: surprise, significance and set-up. Here’s how this one scores.

Quality	How Encore Delivers
Surprise	Ruffalo hadn’t been confirmed for the next Avengers film
Significance	An original Avenger is taken against his will
Set-up	It shows Doom is gathering powerful people

It also neatly links two huge films: it shows the aftermath of Hulk’s outburst in Brand New Day and points ahead to Doomsday and Secret Wars.

The Old Benchmark

The gold standard was Spider-Man: Far From Home. Its mid-credits scene had a game-changing twist (Mysterio exposing Peter’s identity), a cameo from J.K. Simmons’ J. Jonah Jameson and direct set-up for the next film. Seven years on, its fallout still shapes Peter’s story.

How the Other Scenes Compare?

Scene	Verdict
Encore’s second scene	Shows the TVA tracking Incursions and the Multiverse collapsing, but tells fans little they didn’t know
Thunderbolts	Jumped ahead to Doomsday’s opening and showed the Fantastic Four’s ship nearing Earth
The Fantastic Four	Featured Doom and hinted at his plans for Franklin Richards

What Could Come Next?

The author offers some educated guesses. These are speculation, not announced plans:

Doomsday ending: A hopeful stinger could reveal Battleworld and God Emperor Doom on its throne.
Secret Wars ending: Possibly a meeting between Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
An X-Men tease: The X-Men reboot is expected to launch Phase 7 in May 2028, six months after Secret Wars, so a Jean Grey and Charles Xavier moment would fit.
