Disclosure Day India Box Office — Spielberg’s Sci-Fi Opens Decently But Needs a Miracle to Shine in Week 2

Steven Spielberg. Emily Blunt. A cosmic sci-fi thriller. On paper, Disclosure Day had all the ingredients for a blockbuster opening in India. But the reality at the box office? A decent but underwhelming Rs. 7 crore in its opening weekend — and a trajectory that now demands significant weekday hold to stay relevant.

Disclosure Day: Opening Weekend Collections

What Went Right — and What Didn’t

The good news? For a non-franchise, non-IP original Hollywood sci-fi film, opening at Rs. 7 crore gross is not a disaster. India’s multiplex audience did show up. The bad news? The weekend growth curve was deeply concerning. Saturday jumped mildly from Friday — but Sunday actually dropped, which is almost unheard of for a film with genuine audience potential. Ideally, Disclosure Day should have closed its opening weekend in double digits.

Steven Spielberg, one of the most celebrated directors in Hollywood history, has delivered multiple iconic films across decades — but his recent outings have had varying commercial results globally, and India’s market has proven particularly unpredictable for prestige Hollywood releases.

The Road Ahead — Tough But Not Impossible

Trade estimates currently peg Disclosure Day‘s India lifetime at Rs. 20–25 crore gross — a respectable finish, but far from the blockbuster territory its pedigree commanded. To get there, it needs unusually strong weekday numbers for a Hollywood film of this profile.

For context, 2026 has already delivered impressive Hollywood performers in India — Project Hail Mary, The Mummy, and Obsession have all made waves. Disclosure Day now needs to find its own audience fast to not get lost in that competitive company.
