Why Did Project Hail Mary Move in India?
Sony Pictures India shared on March 6 their decision to move the Indian release to one week later, announcing on social media: “An update from Earth… before we head to space! We want this journey to be truly out of this world. Project Hail Mary will be in IMAX and cinemas on March 26, in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.”
The move is a clear sign of just how much firepower Dhurandhar 2 commands. Previously, Peddi moved its release date to April, and Nani’s The Paradise moved to August. The most surprising update came when Yash’s Toxic decided to release in June instead of March 19, 2026, citing Gulf region issues. Fandom Now Project Hail Mary joins the growing list of films that have decided discretion is the better part of valour.
What Is Project Hail Mary About?
Based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary follows astronaut Ryland Grace, who wakes up on a spacecraft unaware of where he is, how he got there, or what his mission is. Deducing that he is the sole survivor, he takes it upon himself to save planet Earth from ruin and is accompanied by an alien he calls Rocky. Fandom
The premise is gripping, the source material is beloved, and the IMAX experience promises to be spectacular. The one-week delay actually gives it a cleaner runway — by March 26, the opening weekend rush for Dhurandhar 2 will have subsided, and Project Hail Mary can claim its own screens and audience.
