Ryan Gosling Just Became Marvel’s New Ghost Rider — And Fans Are Losing It

Comic-Con just delivered one of its biggest surprises yet. Marvel Studios officially confirmed that Ryan Gosling will play Ghost Rider, with Shawn Levy directing — and the internet hasn’t stopped talking about it since.

What Was Announced for Ghost Rider ?

During Marvel’s Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, studio president Kevin Feige revealed that a new Ghost Rider film is officially in development, set for a 2028 theatrical release. Gosling will take on the role of the motorcycle-riding antihero, marking his first entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On stage, Gosling didn’t hide his excitement, calling it a character he’s “wanted to play for a very long time.” Levy — who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine — joined him, revealing the project grew out of conversations the two had while working on Star Wars: Starfighter.

Why This Casting Is a Big Deal

Gosling, a three-time Academy Award nominee, is known for choosing roles carefully — so his jump into the MCU signals real confidence in this project. Levy’s involvement adds further weight, given his recent success reviving beloved Marvel characters. The duo is currently reuniting for Star Wars: Starfighter, out May 2027, before shifting focus to Ghost Rider.

Ghost Rider has a long, fiery history in Marvel Comics, dating back to the 1970s — you can read more about the character’s origins on Wikipedia.
