Marathi cinema has a new king in waiting. Deool Band 2, directed by and starring Pravin Tarde, has turned its opening run into something that trade analysts are genuinely giddy about — and the best part? The second weekend hasn’t even happened yet.

Opening Week in Numbers — A Dream Debut

The film recorded a phenomenal growth on its Day 8, which fell on the Eid al-Adha holiday, adding an estimated Rs 5.25 crore to its tally — its third biggest single-day collection. The movie closed its extended first week at Rs 35.50 crore gross at the Indian box office, which is possibly the second-best opening week for a Marathi film ever, trailing only Raja Shivaji‘s first week of Rs 42.50 crore.

That’s not just good — for a Marathi devotional comedy drama, that’s extraordinary.

Can It Become the Biggest Marathi Film Ever?

The way Deool Band 2 is performing, it is expected to overtake Raja Shivaji in its full run and emerge as the biggest grosser in Marathi cinema. The film is likely to see a big growth in its second weekend — possibly bigger than the opening weekend — which will take its running cumulative past the Rs 50 crore gross mark by the end of its second Sunday.

Think about that for a moment — a second weekend bigger than the first. That kind of word-of-mouth momentum is rare at any level of Indian cinema.
