Ghost Ship Games has unveiled their plans for Deep Rock Galactic through 2025, and while the content cadence is slowing, there’s plenty to look forward to. The beloved co-op shooter isn’t slowing down—it’s evolving. Here’s everything miners need to know about the upcoming roadmap.

Why The Slower Update Schedule?

Ghost Ship Games is dedicating significant resources to developing Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core, a roguelite spinoff that promises a fresh take on clearing Hoxxes IV. Rather than splitting focus, the studio chose quality over quantity—a decision most veterans will appreciate.

The developer explained they’d rather block out bigger chunks of time to give one project full attention rather than attempting simultaneous development. This approach ensures each game receives the polish that made DRG a Steam darling.

Season 5: The Rogue Core Prelude

Season 5 launched in June 2024, serving as a thematic bridge to Rogue Core while bringing the traditional Performance Pass. While specific content details remained sparse at announcement, expect the usual blend of cosmetics, assignments, and gameplay refinements that have defined previous seasons.

For returning miners, this season keeps the space rig humming while the team perfects the roguelite experience. Check out our Deep Rock Galactic strategies guide for maximizing your seasonal rewards.

Deep Rock Galactic: Rogue Core Takes Priority

The roguelite spinoff isn’t just a side project—it’s Ghost Ship’s major 2024 focus. The closed alpha gave select players their first taste of procedurally-generated runs with permanent progression systems. This standalone experience reimagines DRG’s core loop through the roguelite lens, promising endless replayability.

Development of Rogue Core directly explains the extended gap between main game seasons. Rather than delivering half-baked updates to both titles, Ghost Ship committed to excellence. Learn more about Rogue Core on Steam.

Season 6: The 2025 Mystery

Season 6 remains deliberately vague in official communications. Ghost Ship confirmed Season 6 is scheduled for sometime in 2025, but specifics about content, themes, or launch windows haven’t been revealed. Based on Season 5’s June 2024 start, expect Season 6 around mid-to-late 2025.

The extended development time could signal something substantial—perhaps new mission types, biomes, or enemy varieties that justify the wait. For more co-op gaming coverage and updates, visit TechnoSports.

Seasonal Events Keep The Spirit Alive

Between major updates, DRG’s beloved seasonal events return with fresh cosmetics and assignments. Oktoberfest (now hilariously renamed Rocktoberfest by community demand), holiday celebrations, and other limited-time events ensure there’s always a reason to drop back into Hoxxes IV.

These events typically introduce exclusive beer steins, armor paintjobs, and silly hats that have become DRG’s calling card. Don’t sleep on these limited windows—some cosmetics never return.

What This Means For Players

The roadmap shift reflects a mature game transitioning from explosive growth to sustainable support. Four years post-launch, DRG maintains its core player base through quality-over-quantity updates. The yearly seasonal model allows Ghost Ship to craft meaningful content without burning out.

New players can jump in anytime—the game’s evergreen appeal comes from its tight gameplay loop, not just seasonal freshness. Veterans get refined experiences and a promising spinoff to explore.

FAQs

Will Deep Rock Galactic get abandoned for Rogue Core?

No. Ghost Ship explicitly committed to both games, scheduling Season 6 for 2025 and maintaining seasonal event rotations. The studio simply chose focused development periods over divided attention.

Can I play Rogue Core if I own the original game?

Rogue Core is a separate purchase and standalone experience. It shares the DRG universe and aesthetic but features entirely different gameplay mechanics centered around roguelite progression.
