Crew Girl Season 2: How Netflix’s Rowing Drama Rowed Its Way to a Renewal

Just two weeks after hitting Netflix, “Crew Girl” has already locked in its future. The YA sports drama, led by Miku Martineau, has officially been renewed for Season 2 — and the numbers behind that decision tell a genuinely impressive growth story.

From Slow Start to Global Top 10

Most shows peak in week one and fade fast. “Crew Girl” did the opposite. After debuting on September 10, it more than doubled its viewership in week two, climbing to the #2 spot on Netflix’s Global Top 10 English TV list with 11.3 million views. Since launch, it’s racked up over 16 million total views and charted in more than 90 countries — exactly the kind of “sticky” engagement pattern that gets renewals greenlit fast.

What the Show Is About?

For anyone catching up, “Crew Girl” follows Teagan Tao, a teenage rowing prodigy forced to relocate after a family scandal. Determined to keep her Olympic ambitions alive, she ends up coxing a boat full of ultra-competitive prep school boys — a setup that’s clearly resonated with teen drama audiences worldwide.

What’s Coming in Season 2?

Season 1 left plenty of loose threads — Josh recovering from heart surgery, Teagan and Cam rekindling their spark, and rival Britney launching the school’s first girls’ rowing team. Martineau herself teased a “packed, juicy, drama-filled” follow-up season, hinting the romance and rowing rivalry are only heating up.

It’s part of a bigger pattern too: Netflix’s coming-of-age titles have driven over 10 billion global views since 2023, putting “Crew Girl” in the same league as hits like Ginny & Georgia and Never Have I Ever. The show’s competitive, high-stakes world draws loosely from the real sport of rowing, which has long inspired coming-of-age storytelling for its blend of teamwork and grit.
