Cognizant Puts 18,000 Engineers Behind Google’s Gemini

AI pilots are easy to start and hard to finish. Many enterprises have experiments gathering dust, and few have agents running in production. Cognizant and Google Cloud now say they’re building a bridge from one to the other, and it comes with a big workforce.

Cognizant Announcement : Overview

Dedicated team	18,000+ Cognizant associates

What the New Group Does?

The group pairs Google’s enterprise AI platform with Cognizant’s industry and engineering know-how. Its goal is to help businesses safely deploy reliable, enterprise-grade AI agents that deliver measurable results, rather than getting stuck at the pilot stage.

It will initially focus on four areas:

Focus Area	What It Means
Legacy modernization	Updating older systems
Developer experience	Making engineering teams more productive
Business process agentification	Using autonomous agents to run workflows
Frontier cyber defense	Advanced AI-driven security

Built With Security in Mind

The group plans to use a standardized, security-first agent architecture based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), reinforced by Google Cloud’s Model Armor. Planned solutions include:

Catalog Support Agent for retail
A healthcare agentic marketplace orchestrated by Neuro San
Multi-agent Order-to-Cash workflows for manufacturing

The Skills Behind It

Cognizant says its “Build with Gemini” workshop is the largest Gemini partner workshop held to date, with over 55,000 associates completing it. Participants built AI agents and apps while earning Gemini skills credentials. The company is also rolling out Gemini internally to 100,000 associates this year, with plans to scale to 200,000.

One Early Result

As a proof point, Cognizant says that integrating Gemini across the software development lifecycle helped a leading retailer reach:

Metric	Result
Developer productivity	+40%
Time-to-market	-30%
Cost savings	35%

These are company-reported figures, and the retailer isn’t named, so treat them as an illustration rather than a guarantee.

What the Leaders Said?

Cognizant CEO Ravi Kumar S says the group lets top engineering talent focus fully on getting frontier AI into production. Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian stresses that deploying agents at scale takes trusted partners with strong architecture and integration skills.

Why It Matters?

The announcement shows a shift in enterprise AI from experimenting to executing. Dedicated teams, certified engineers, and security frameworks are the practical ingredients companies say they need. Whether results match the ambition will depend on real deployments. For more on the company, see Cognizant on Wikipedia.
