Cognizant and Cognition have announced the successful deployment of autonomous AI engineering, leveraging Cognition’s AI software engineer, Devin, to modernize Odyssey Logistics’ legacy transportation management platform. The initiative resulted in a 37% net cost saving and an approximate one-third increase in delivery throughput for Odyssey Logistics, within a fixed budget and accelerated timeline.

The collaboration, which commenced in January 2026, aimed to address constraints faced by enterprises in technology modernization, particularly the scarcity of engineering capacity and the protracted timelines of conventional programs. Cognizant Autonomous AI for Enterprise Modernization

Devin, Cognition’s AI software engineer, is designed to execute multi-step development tasks, including planning, coding, and testing across complex systems. Cognizant engineers worked in conjunction with Devin, providing the industry depth, delivery scale, and governance necessary for integrating AI agents into critical business systems. Cognizant has trained over 3,000 associates on the Devin platform, reporting internal applications of Devin cutting time to release-ready code by more than 50% and accelerating greenfield development by five to six times.

Following the success of the initial collaboration, the companies have expanded their joint offerings. These now include a modernization and upgrade solution to automate conversion, templating, migration, testing, and fixes at scale; a quality engineering offering embedding Devin to identify test-coverage gaps and generate test cases; and a Frontier AI Cyber Defense offering built on Devin-based capabilities.

Tarun Kumar, Americas Head, Software Engineering Group at Cognizant, commented on the rapid evolution of software engineering. “Autonomous agents are fundamentally changing the economics of modernization and what enterprises can achieve,” Kumar stated. “Our work at Odyssey provides a preview of how enterprise engineering will operate moving forward.”

Odyssey Logistics Project Details

Odyssey Logistics, a global multimodal logistics provider managing a freight network exceeding $3 billion, sought to consolidate its order intake and full shipment lifecycle onto its new OdysseyONE platform. The underlying workflow logic resided in legacy Microsoft Access and Visual Basic for Applications forms, which presented challenges for scaling, maintenance, and integration. The project required migrating original business rules while adhering to a fixed budget and tight delivery schedule, precluding a conventional rewrite.

A seven-person Cognizant team utilized Devin to manage the legacy conversion, rebuilding the forms as cloud-native applications. Devin also generated tests, deployment pipelines, and documentation. All changes underwent review and sign-off by a Cognizant technical lead or architect before integration. This approach yielded a 37% net cost reduction compared to traditional methods and improved delivery throughput by approximately one-third. The current phase is operational, and the program is ongoing.

Maneet Singh, CIO and CDO at Odyssey Logistics, emphasized the project’s impact on business outcomes. “For us, this was about accelerating operations without compromising discipline,” Singh noted. “Cognizant and Cognition facilitated a governed path to production for a complex legacy rebuild. Prior to the full-scale re-development, Odyssey validated the approach by deploying Cognizant and Devin on a separate legacy application. This pilot project was completed 21 days after its kickoff, providing the confidence to extend the model to the primary transportation management platform.
