Chelsea handed transfer blow as Victor Osimhen to sign new contract until 2026 with £112 million release clause

To the dismay of many Chelsea fans, Victor Osimhen will be signing a new contract with Napoli until 2026. The striker was a transfer target for the high-spending Blues, but now seems certain to continue with the Azzurri, after agreeing to a new contract.

The new deal will also see him become one of the best-paid players in the history of the club, and it will also include a £112 million release clause valid in 2024. Meaning Chelsea will be able to sign the player if they match that amount next summer, or even in January.

Osimhen’s new deal comes on the back of several misunderstandings between the player and the club in the past few months. After falling out with former manager Rudi Garcia, he was also involved in the TikTok incident that fuelled rumours of a departure. But now, he seems set to sign a new deal with improved terms.

Victor Osimhen to sign new contract with Napoli until 2026

Since signing for the Azzurri from Lille in 2020, Osimhen has become one of the most important players for Napoli. The forward has scored 66 goals in 116 games for the club across all competitions during this time, helping them win the Serie A title last season while finishing as the top scorer.

Victor Osimhen won the 2023 African Footballer of the Year Award recently, further adding to his stock. He is considered one of the best strikers in the world right now, and could be exactly what a club like Chelsea needs given their striker issues.

However, owing to the new contract agreed between Osimhen and his current club, they will have to break the bank once again to sign their top target.
