The Call of Duty community is buzzing with excitement! Treyarch’s Design Director Matt Scorce has teased that the beloved Search and Destroy game mode might be added to the Black Ops 7 beta. With the beta launching on October 2, 2025, fans have been desperately requesting this iconic tactical mode, and it seems the developers are listening.

“Confirming that we do see the requests for Search & Destroy in the #BlackOps7 Beta. That’s all I will say for now,” Scorce posted on X, sending waves of anticipation through the COD community.

Call of Duty Why Search and Destroy Matters

Search and Destroy isn’t just another game mode – it’s the heart of competitive Call of Duty. This tactical, round-based mode has defined countless esports moments and separated casual players from strategic masterminds. The high-stakes, no-respawn gameplay creates intensity that other modes simply can’t match.

For many players, the Black Ops 7 beta represents their only chance to experience the new title before its November 14 release, making the inclusion of Search and Destroy crucial for forming complete impressions of the game’s competitive potential.

Understanding Search and Destroy

Core Mechanics

For newcomers to the franchise, Search and Destroy operates on a completely different level than traditional multiplayer modes:

Objective: One team plants a bomb at designated sites, while the other team prevents detonation or defuses after planting.

No Respawns: Once eliminated, you’re out for the entire round, making every life precious and every decision critical.

Round-Based: Teams alternate between attacking and defending, with the first to win a majority of rounds claiming victory.

High Stakes: The permanent elimination system creates unmatched tension and rewards tactical thinking over aggressive rushing.

The New Overlord Mode: A Fresh Take

While Search and Destroy represents classic COD tactical gameplay, Overlord introduces something entirely new to Black Ops 7. This escort-style mode requires teams to guide a device through enemy territory while protecting it from opposition forces.

The combination of Overlord’s innovation and Search and Destroy’s proven formula could provide the perfect balance between new experiences and beloved classics in the beta.

Community Impact and Competitive Scene

The potential inclusion of Search and Destroy would significantly impact the beta’s reception among competitive players and content creators. This mode serves as the foundation for:

Professional esports tournaments
Content creation and streaming opportunities
Skill-based competitive experiences
Strategic team coordination development

Without Search and Destroy, many competitive players would miss crucial insights into Black Ops 7’s tactical depth and competitive viability.

What This Means for Launch

If Treyarch does add Search and Destroy to the beta, it signals strong confidence in their tactical gameplay systems. The mode’s demanding nature requires:

Balanced weapon mechanics
Well-designed maps with strategic depth
Refined movement and audio systems
Stable networking for competitive play

Including it in the beta would provide invaluable feedback for fine-tuning these systems before the November 14 launch.

Beta Timeline and Expectations

With the Black Ops 7 beta launching October 2, 2025, Treyarch has limited time to implement additional modes. However, Search and Destroy is a established mode that shouldn’t require extensive development compared to creating entirely new game types.

The timing of Matt Scorce’s announcement suggests internal discussions are already underway, with the final decision likely depending on:

Technical readiness of map designs
Beta server capacity considerations
Community feedback volume and intensity

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: When will we know for certain if Search and Destroy is added to the Black Ops 7 beta?

A: While Treyarch hasn’t provided a specific timeline, the beta launches on October 2, 2025, so any announcements would likely come in the final weeks leading up to the launch. Matt Scorce’s acknowledgment suggests they’re actively considering it, but no official confirmation has been made yet.

Q: Will adding Search and Destroy to the beta affect the other confirmed game modes?

A: No, adding Search and Destroy would simply expand the total mode count from 5 to 6. All currently confirmed modes (Overlord, Team Deathmatch, Domination, Kill Confirmed, and Hardpoint) would remain available. The addition would enhance rather than replace the existing beta content.
