In a rare and intimate radio appearance that sent ARMY into a frenzy, BTS eldest member Kim Seokjin bared his soul on Red Velvet Wendy’s Young Street, offering unprecedented insight into his creative process, military service reflections, and dreams for the future. The October 2025 broadcast became an instant classic among fans as Jin—known for his playful persona—revealed a more vulnerable side, particularly when discussing his solo single “The Astronaut” and why it wasn’t his original title track choice.

Between lighthearted banter with Wendy and poignant moments of introspection, the episode painted a portrait of an artist at a crossroads: celebrating past achievements while gazing toward new horizons. This wasn’t just another idol interview—it was a cultural moment that reminded listeners why Jin remains one of K-pop’s most compelling figures, both as a performer and as a human navigating fame’s complexities.

The Astronaut Revelation: BTS Jin’s Creative Struggles

The most startling revelation came when Jin confessed that “The Astronaut”—the Coldplay-collaborated single that became his signature solo work—wasn’t his first choice for title track. “I pushed hard for another song,” he admitted, his usually bright voice tinged with artistic frustration. “But sometimes what the artist wants and what the team decides… they have to meet in the middle.” While he didn’t name the rejected track, his description suggested a more personal, stripped-down composition that ultimately didn’t fit the “global single” mold HYBE envisioned. This rare glimpse into industry negotiations highlighted the tension between artistic integrity and commercial strategy that even top-tier idols face.

What made the moment particularly poignant was Jin’s subsequent reflection: “Now I understand why it had to be The Astronaut. It wasn’t just my song—it was a gift to ARMY.” His emotional delivery of this line sparked thousands of tweets analyzing the song’s lyrics as a metaphor for his military enlistment, with fans realizing the track’s cosmic imagery took on new meaning when viewed as a temporary farewell.

Military Service Reflections: Growth Through Challenge

When Wendy gently steered the conversation toward Jin’s recently completed military service, the broadcast took on a more somber tone. “At first, I thought it would be 18 months of my life disappearing,” Jin confessed. “But I learned more about being Kim Seokjin—not BTS’ Jin—than I had in years.” His descriptions of early morning drills, cafeteria conversations with non-celebrity soldiers, and the surreal experience of being recognized in uniform painted a vivid picture of an idol reconnecting with his humanity.

Most striking was his admission about post-service anxiety: “Coming back, I worried—did people wait for me? Was there still a place for me?” The raw vulnerability in this moment shattered the typical idol interview script, offering a rare look at the psychological toll of mandatory service. Yet true to form, Jin quickly lightened the mood with his trademark humor: “Then I saw ARMY’s birthday ads and thought, ‘Ah, I guess I don’t need to worry about rent money!'”

Future Dreams: Solo Concerts and Beyond

The conversation turned euphoric when Jin teased upcoming projects, sending live-chat reactions into overdrive. “I’m preparing something special,” he hinted with a mischievous grin, refusing to confirm whether this meant solo concerts but acknowledging the fan demand. “Performing alone is terrifying in a new way. With BTS, if I mess up, six others can cover for me!” His laughter at this admission couldn’t mask the determination in his voice—a clear sign that 2026 might finally bring the long-awaited Jin Solo Tour.

More surprising was his casual mention of acting aspirations, playfully challenging Wendy to recommend him for dramas. “I’ve been watching Squid Game and thought, ‘I could do that!'” he joked, though industry insiders later revealed genuine discussions about his post-military creative direction.
