After long delays, and facing tough competitions with AMD, Intel launches the 10nm based 10th-Gen Core Processors codenamed Ice Lake CPUs at the Computex 2019
The Silicon giant has finally woke up from its sleep, the much needed and promised 10nm processors come finally alive at 2019’s Computex. Intel has finally shown off its new 10nm 10th-Generation Core processors, codenamed as Ice Lake CPUs.
Our new #10thGen Intel Core processors deliver a new architecture, #AI capabilities, and superior connectivity. Solving the needs of today and tomorrow. #Computex https://t.co/ThqPG8UJXl https://t.co/ltKYV0jeIY
What really made the headlines was due to the fact of 18% increase in average instruction per cycle (IPC) throughput compared to the aging Skylake architecture. Some applications receive 30 to 40% performance improvements for specific of workloads due to the new 10nm architecture.
Intel already demoed their Ice Lake CPUs at the CES 2019, wherein they showed about the new Sunny Cove microarchitecture that helps to drive the new Ice Lake CPUs. This resurrection was much needed for the chip making giant in front of the might Red team.
While AMD has just achieved a 15% more performance improvement in IPC due to the new 7nm process, and finally levelled Intel in its single core performance. Now, with the new microarchitecture and 10nm process Intel can again retrieve its performance leadership.
10nm based 10th generation Core processors coming first to laptops
As promised earlier, the new 10nm Ice Lake CPUs will be coming first for the laptops and thin & light devices. These new chips will come in U- and Y-series variants that draws power in 9W, 15W and 25W TDP ranges.
These 10th-generation processors for laptops surprisingly will be available in up to four cores and eight threads only, with 8MB of L3 cache, and have a maximum turbo frequencies of 4.1 GHz only.
Also here’s the dual-channel memory support up to 4X32 LPDDR4X-3733 and DDR4-3200, which seems to be a big improvement to ~60 GB/s of throughput. This will greatly help boost graphics performance and the new integrated Gen11 graphics will reach up to 1.1 GHz as well.
Intel has not yet discussed about any specific model yet, but there will be over 30 designs with multiple variations when they arrive in the market in the form of laptops. Intel also has introduced a new thin magnetic inductor array that helps the company to provide greater efficiency at low power.
Also the newly introduced Dynamic Tuning 2.0, a new machine learning-based power delivery technique, uses software running inside the OS to adjust power dynamically totally based upon the users’ needs.
New Ice lake Design & the Sunny Cove Microarchitecture
The new Ice Lake design finds room for lot of improvements due to the 10nm process and the use of Sunny Cove microarchitecture helps further to increase the throughput.
Here we see a huge improvement in the memory bandwidth with support up to 4X32 LPDDR4X-3733 and DDR4-3200. The new Gen 11 graphics along with the implementation of Thunderbolt 3 has charged up the CPUs.
There are 3X display pipes that supports 5K at 60fps and 4K at 120fps, also the new image processing unit 4 supports up to 16MP and video recording at 1080p at 120fps and 4K at 30fps.
With the Sunny cove microarchitecture, Intel can now process four or six micro-ops (uops) per clock with 50% larger micro-op cache. They have also expanded the L1 data cache from 32KB to 48KB and doubled the L2 cache to 512KB.
Ice Lake performance improvements
These new Ice Lake CPUs have an average IPC improvement of about 15 to 18% than the four years ago introduced Sky Lake CPUs. On the other hand, the single threaded performance has also increased a lot with the new Sunnycove cores but only when comparing against the old Broadwell architecture.
Intel Gen11 Graphics
Intel’s much promised Gen 11 graphics is being heavily boasted by the company and is even claimed to be even better than that of AMD’s fantastic APUs. When it is compared to its 8th Gen chips, Intel claims its new Gen11 Iris Plus graphics can achieve nearly double the performance.
It has bumped the number of execution units (EUs) from 24 up to 64 within the same power envelope. Due to the architectural improvements, Intel says the Gen 11 graphics delivers up to one teraflop of 32-bit and two teraflops of 16-bit floating point performance without consuming much power.
The Gen11 graphics unit features a significantly larger 3D engine to boost 1080P gaming performance above 30FPS into the 60 FPS range. This suggests Intel is trying to challenge AMD’s APUs which give tremendous CPU and integrated GPU performance.
Also there’s the inclusion of QuickSync video technology with dual HEVC encoders that can help you to create and playback 4K HDR content. The Gen11 graphics is also the company’s first integrated graphics unit to have Adaptive Sync and HDR capable display pipes. It also has support for HDR 3 and DPI 1.2.
Thunderbolt 3
Thunderbolt ports have always been limited to very few laptops and if they bear it, it has got only one Thunderbolt port only.
With Intel’s new dual-sided Thunderbolt 3 controller architecture seen in the new Ice Lake CPUs, it can provide up to 4 ports! Two on each side of the laptop.
Well, due to space constraints most of the OEMs will still ship the notebooks with two ports only, but in mere future, we can expect their models with expanded capabilities.
Laptops with the latest 10nm Ice Lake CPUs are to hit the shelves from June and nothing as such has been promised for the desktop end Ice Lake CPUs, but keeping in mind of Intel’s progress, they could nearly launch it at the end of 2019 or at 2020.
What do you think about the new Ice Lake CPUs? Tell us in the comments down below… 🙂
Today AMD announced a lot of things at its keynote headed by Dr Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, at the Computex 2019 held at Taipei. Apart from the great Ryzen 3000 CPU launch, AMD also announced its much rumoured upcoming Radeon Navi GPU.
The first GPU product of the Navi architecture is the 7nm RX 5700 GPU, the RX 5000 name is given in honour of the 50 glorious years completed by this silicon giant.
The Radeon RX 5700 is the first Navi GPU and is based on the company’s new RDNA macro-architecture, yes finally AMD has ditched the GCN architecture.
Yet, they have told that the Vega GPUs will still use GCN, but the RDNA is more of a futuristic GPU architecture which the company feels to be special for them.
Also, the Navi GPU will be the first to feature the world’s first PCIe Gen 4 which delivers a significant performance improvement over PCIe Gen 3, an almost 2X improvement.
The new RDNA architecture features a completely new compute unit design along with multi-level cache hierarchy. This helps to deliver faster clock speeds at lower power consumption.
The architecture provides you with a 1.25x higher IPC and 1.5x more performance per watt than it previously used to be with the GCN architecture. The 7nm process also plays a key role here as well.
It was also shown by AMD that the new Radeon RX 5700 can provide 10% more performance than NVIDIA’s Turing based GeForce RTX 2070 GPU.
Honestly, from the previous GPU that AMD launched – the Radeon VII which was based on 7nm, the company has improved the GPU horsepower and used the architecture to challenge its competitors with capable GPUs at lower prices.
Not much specs has been shown by the company, but AMD has even revealed that the upcoming PlayStation gaming consoles will be powered by both the Navi GPUs and Zen 2 based Ryzen CPUs.
The Red Team even did not reveal if these GPUs have Ray Tracing feature in them or not, they will reveal everything on 7th of July at the E3 of 2019 along with other promised products.
AIFF has appointed Igor Stimac as the new head coach of the Indian football senior team and hopes to take Indian football to new heights.
Former Indian football team head coach, Stephen Constantine resigned after the AFC Asian Cup in January. The Executive Committee of the All India Football Federation has now appointed Igor Stimac as the head coach of the men’s senior national football team coach on a two-year contract.
Stimac has over 18 years of experience in coaching, structuring, and developing football players in Croatia and internationally. His major achievement was guiding the Croatian football team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014. During his tenure as the head coach of Croatia, he developed many players and handed national team debuts to Mateo Kovacic, Ante Rebic, Alen Halilovic, Ivan Perisic, Dario Srna, Daniel Subasic and many others. His last assignment was with Al-Shahania Club in Qatar.
Igor Stimac himself was a famous footballer during his time. He was a part of the Croatian football squad which finished third in the FIFA World Cup France 1998. He was also a member of the Croatian football squad which qualified for the quarterfinals of the UEFA European Championship 1996 (Euro) in England. Along with this, he was also a part of the Yugoslavia U-19 National Team which won the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 1987.
Praful Patel, President of the All India Football Federation said: “Igor is the right candidate to coach the Blue Tigers. I welcome him on board. Indian Football is going through a transition, and I am confident his vast experience will guide us to higher echelons.” Kushal Das, General Secretary of AIFF added: “His credentials as a coach and experience as a player are sure to add immense value to the players, and the Indian Football ecosystem. The momentum gained needs to be sustained.”
Shyam Thapa, former Indian international player who is a member of the bronze-medal winning squad in the 1970 Asian Games and currently the Chairman of the Technical Committee said: “Mr Stimac’s recommendation was unanimous. All the members of the Technical Committee including the AIFF Technical Director Mr Isac Doru were immensely impressed and convinced about him being best suited for the job. He is a World Cupper and has guided Croatia to the World Cup as a coach. Who else could have been a better candidate? He also impressed us with his extensive research on Indian Football.”
All the Indian players are also excited after the appointment of such a high profile coach. All of them are looking forward to work with Igor Stimac and take the Indian football team to new heights. Indian captain Sunil Chhetri said: “I’ve already spoken with the boys from the national team, and we have begun working on our fitness as we will need to switch modes soon. While there is a change in guard at the helm, what doesn’t change is our desire to keep improving. What I am also assuming won’t change is the way all you fans have backed us. Let’s all turn to this new chapter together.”
Pronay Halder, who currently plays for the Indian side ATK said: “The coach brings in a wealth of experience from his playing days as well as managerial career. He has worked with top midfielders such as Luka Modric and Ivan Rakitic. Personally, I feel I would be able to learn a lot from him and hopefully we’ll be able to get the desired results. I am excited for the King’s Cup. It’s an amazing feeling to play for the national team and with some formidable opponents like Curacao. I feel that it’ll be a good opportunity to gain some valuable experience and improve as a team. Hoping to get the results in our favour under the new coach.”
Vishal Kaith, a young and promising goalkeeper who for FC Pune City, has been called up to the national team. He is looking forward to impress Stimac. He added: “As all of us know that Stimac has managed Croatia and worked with top players in the world, helping them develop individually, I am confident that likewise the Indian contingent will develop further and we’ll be able to get positive results in the upcoming tournaments and qualifiers. I look forward to give my 100% in the national team camp and improve both as a team and individually. With hard work, more confidence and the guidance of the new coach, we’ll be able to get the results in our favour in the upcoming games.
Lalruatthara, a promising defender who plays for Kerala Blasters hopes that he can return to the Indian national team under Igor Stimac. He said: “Leading Croatia to the World Cup shows the Coach’s experience at the International stage. We are lucky to have him manage the Indian National Team side. Hopefully, under him, we will be able to perform well in the upcoming tournaments. While the National team is used to the way it played under the former coach Constantine, I feel players will be looking forward to playing under the new coach and adapt to his style as soon as possible. Everyone would be really excited to see the National team play after a significant gap. The coach will be taking charge of the National team in his first competitive game in the King’s Cup. I am really excited and look forward to overcoming the challenges that lie ahead and hopefully make it to the squad.”
Igor Stimac will face a number of challenges as the head coach of the Indian football team. He has a few important assignments starting with the King’s Cup in Buriram, Thailand, from June 5-8. India will then host Syria, Tajikistan and North Korea in what is called as an Intercontinental Cup from July 7-17 in Ahmedabad. After that, the all-important World Cup qualifiers will begin from September. For a nation that’s aspiring to play the FIFA World Cup 2026 if not 2022, Stimac really has his task cut out.
Among all the challenges he faces, the most important one for Stimac is to find the rightful heir of Sunil Chhetri. Indian football is somewhat still reliant on one figure – Indian captain Sunil Chhetri. But Chhetri is already 34 and is not getting any younger. The undisputed leader of the national team may be only around for a couple of years. Stimac’s challenge, therefore, is to find a suitable replacement for Chhetri within the next two years.
Stanley Rozario, Aizawl FC coach said: “I am expecting Stimac to play attacking football. He was a defender during his playing days so he will definitely ensure the Indian defence is well organised. He will likely use his experience to tighten the defence and then rely on counter-attacks. I got to know that he has seen a lot of the ISL and I-League matches and came prepared with a list of 36 players for his job interview. That shows the interest he has taken up in Indian football, and it’s only good for us that he was given the job. The Indian football fraternity needs to come together as one unit in its support of Stimac. We’ll go by the results of the national team but to get these results, Stimac needs time.”

At the COMPUTEX 2019, the Silicon giant AMD has announced its latest 7nm 3rd gen Ryzen Desktop CPUs, 12 cores and 24 threads only at $499
The day finally arrived which we all had been waiting for, the Red Team has announced the latest 7nm 3rd gen Ryzen products at the COMPUTEX 2019. The first keynote of the event was delivered by Dr Lisa Su, CEO of AMD.
Apart from other launches by the company and announcements what really has made the headlines is the new gen Ryzen Desktop CPUs based on the much anticipated 7nm process. These CPUs are based on the company’s Zen 2 architecture which is expected to provide much better performance from the previous generation ones.
Much like their competitor Intel, Dr Lisa has only previewed the higher end CPUs and promises to bring or rather reveal all of them at the E3 of 2019 which will be held on 7th July. The things that we noticed in the CPUs are:
15% IPC uplift
2X more Cache memory
2X Floating Point performance
Better Single core performance
Higher clock speeds
Lower power consumption
PCIe 4.0 support
The amazing thing that you may notice is that we only though AMD would stack up more cores to beat its rival Intel, but its a smart move by them to increase the single core performance and help to increase the gaming performance.
Intel always boasted of their gaming performance of its CPUs because of their better single thread performance. Now, with the 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs, you’ll notice a huge increase in gaming performance than ever before.
Also, the fact remains that the 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs will provide you with an immense multi-threaded performance that will critically help you in content creation or facing higher-end workloads, much better than Intel.
The inclusion of extra cache and higher clock speed has helps these new CPUs to achieve heights in matter of compute performance. Also the fact remains these CPUs stack up less space helping the company to play with the number of cores in future.
Another big point of the new CPUs is that the power consumption, which Intel always boasted of. We have seen AMD processors previously to use more power and faced heating issues. But with 7nm, the scenario has completely changed, adding more cores has not yet affected the power consumption at all.
So, here’s the complete list of processors announced:
Let’s break down those three processors that had been demoed today at the COMPUTEX:
AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
This is the CPU that has completely changed the computing scenario, yes now you can get a total of 12 cores and 24 threads on a desktop CPU. Previous leaks also suggested of a Ryzen 9 lineup with 12 cores and later we also may see a 16 core CPU as well.
The chip has a TDP of 105 W and a huge cache of 70 MB. This beast has a base clock speed of 3.8 GHz and can reach up to 4.6 GHz on boost. This CPU has been priced at just $499 US and will be available from 7th July.
AMD showed off a demo of this CPU beating its competitor chip Intel Core i9 9920X (that costs almost double the price) in Blender Render Test by over 16%.
AMD Ryzen 7 3800X& 3700X
Both these CPUs continue the high performing legacy of the Ryzen 7 lineup, providing enough power to drive both the productivity and gaming performance.
The AMD Ryzen 7 3700X is an 8 core, 16 thread CPU with a TDP of 65 W. It has a base clock speed of 3.6 GHz and a boost clock speed of up to 4.4 GHz. The cache memory here is also very high, as high as 36 MB.
When compared with the Intel Core i7-9700K, this beast totally outperforms it. It is 28% faster in multi-threaded workloads and just levels the Intel one in single-threaded tests, which is truly amazing, finally, AMD levelling Intel on single core performance.
Coming to the Ryzen 7 3800X, this CPU is being branded to “the AMD gaming CPU” to look out for, as this provides a comparable performance to the high end i9 9900K at a lower price.
The 3800X bears the same 8 cores and 16 threads with higher clock speeds of 3.5 GHz base and a boost clock speed of 4.5 GHz. This higher clock speed increases the TDP to 105 W with 36 MB of cache memory.
The Ryzen 7 3700X will be available for a price of $329 US while its brother 3800X will cost you $399 US.
Well, this was a simple overview of the product launch, in coming days we will discuss more facts about the Zen 2 architecture and the improvements laid by it on the new 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs.
So, are you excited about the new 7nm 3rd gen Ryzen CPUs? Tell us in the comments below… 🙂

After the introduction of VAR, the Premier League officials have also introduced 8 new rules which will come into effect from the coming season.
VAR will be fully introduced to the Premier League from the next season in an attempt to provide clarity around contentious incidents and help referees to make better decisions. Football’s governing bodies are always striving to make football a better sport. Now, the Premier League officials have introduced 8 new rule changes in the Premier League from the next season.
Let’s have a look at the 8 new rule changes coming to the Premier League from the 2019-20 season:
Substitutions To prevent time wasting, the substituted player can leave the pitch now from his nearest point. Rather than having to cross the pitch or make their way back to the dug-out, the player will have to go off at the closest sideline.
Free-kick walls This rule is introduced to prevent unnecessary fouls, which normally goes undetected by the referees. From now on, if there are more than three players in a free-kick wall (so pretty much every free-kick close to the goal) attackers are not allowed within one yard of the wall. This rule change will put an end to the pushing, shoving, pulling and tugging that causes aggravation for almost every referee.
Drop balls Officially, there will be no more drop balls. An age-old, chaotic method of restarting play is no more. Drop balls are now a thing of history, they are gone from next season. Whoever touches the ball last gets the ball. But it remains to be seen whether that team decides to give the ball back to the other side. Another thing to this rule is that if the play is stopped with the ball in the penalty area, it will restart with the goalkeeper. This rule is certainly bound to cause a bit of controversy.
Goalkeepers during penalties Goalkeepers have long been menaces when preparing to face penalties, but they will be watched from next season. The goalkeepers cannot touch the goal frame, move along their line, sprint off their line or stand behind the line. They will have to have one boot touching the line. Goalkeepers are also not allowed to feign movement one way in an attempt to bluff the taker. But it remains to be seen how much movement will be allowed and can a goalkeeper lean one way and dive the other!
Goal kicks Till the previous season, a goal-kick was not in play until it left the 18-yard box. If a defender touched it, it was an indirect free-kick and if an attacker touched it the goalkeeper would get the decision. But from next season, a goal-kick is in play from the moment the ball is kicked. This is a massive change and one that should speed up the game. This is done to counter the high press as the defenders will now be able to collect the ball inside the 18-yard box.
Handballs A goal scored directly from the hand/arm will no longer be allowed. This had long been the case, but even accidental handballs will be punished from next season. If the ball touches an attacking player’s arm in the build-up to a goal – accidental or not – the goal will not count. But here’s a thing about this rule – this rule does not apply to the defenders in their own box. So a referee, or VAR, will still judge whether a handball was deliberate or not.
Goal celebrations This rule is a direct result of VAR. A player is currently booked for any over-exuberant celebrations, jumping into the crowd or taking a shirt off and so on. And now from next season, players can now be booked for their goal celebration – even if the goal is disallowed later by the referee or VAR.
Card for coaches Coaches will now be punished the same way as players. The referees are allowed to brandish yellow and red cards to off-field staff, from the next season. The new rule also states that the senior coach in the technical area will receive the decided punishment when offending individuals cannot be identified, such as in mass disagreements between backroom staff. So mild-mannered managers can also receive cards if they fail to control their staff – even if they have been minding their own business.
