Barcelona icon Xavi Hernandez confirms his retirement from football

Spain and Barcelona midfield maestro Xavi Hernandez has confirmed his intention to retire at the end of this season and move into coaching.

Xavi Hernandez left Barcelona after their treble-winning 2014-15 season and joined Al Sadd playing in the Qatar Stars League. Initially, Xavi had plans to retire at the end of the last season, but surprisingly he postponed his retirement plans and signed a two-year contract. Now finally, he has decided to pull the curtains on his glorious football career and he hopes to sign off by helping Al Sadd to Emir Cup glory.

Xavi said: “Over the coming four weeks, I will be lacing my boots for the last games of an unforgettable career, which has spanned over 21 years and taken me to every corner of the world. It has been a fantastic end to my playing career here in Qatar. Winning the Qatar Stars League this month was the title that was missing. Since I arrived here we have won everything and only the league was missing, so I’m very happy. As a sportsperson, you never get tired of winning. Once you have won a title you always want to win more.”

Xavi is a product of Barcelona’s fabled La Masia academy. He has won everything that a football player dreams of! He has won eight LaLiga titles, four Champions Leagues and a trio of Copas del Rey during a glittering era for the Catalan club. Xavi was voted “UEFA Champions League Best Midfielder” for his contribution during Barcelona’s victorious 2008-09 Champions League campaign. In 2010, Xavi was one of the three finalists for the FIFA Ballon d’Or, alongside Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta. However, he finished third on the vote, behind Messi and Iniesta but he did defeat Messi to win Player of the Year award from World Soccer Magazine. Last month, Xavi has also won the Qatar Stars League with Al Sadd.

Xavi also played a pivotal role in Spain’s 2010 World Cup win – a moment of glory that came in between their successes at Euro 2008 and Euro 2012. He was named Euro 2008’s Player of the Tournament after Spain defeated Germany 1–0 in the final. Besides being dominant in the midfield, Xavi was quick with his metronomic passing and his reading of the game was pivotal to Spain’s success.
In 2010, Spain eventually won their maiden FIFA World Cup and Xavi’s contribution in this venture could be estimated by the fact that he was the one who provided the most number of accurate passes, 599 with a passing success rate of 91%, and also to crossed the ball inside the 18-yard box more than any other player in the tournament.
Xavi also played for Spain during the Euro 2012, which Spain won by defeating Italy 4–0 in the finals. With Xavi providing two assists in the final, he became the first player to register assists in two European Championship finals.

Xavi is one of the classiest players to grace the Camp Nou pitch and play for the Spanish national team. Let’s have a look at his career in numbers:

767 – Xavi holds the Barcelona appearance record, with only current captain Lionel Messi (682) and Andres Iniesta (674) within 100 matches of his 767 games for the club.
9 – Only nine players in LaLiga history have played more than 500 times in the competition. Xavi has played 505 LaLiga games.
13 – Xavi tasted defeat to Barcelona’s Clasico rivals Real Madrid on 13 occasions, playing in the fixture an incredible 42 times. He scored five goals against the Los Blancos.
25 – His record in the Catalan derby against Espanyol was brilliant. Xavi – who scored six goals in the fixture – featured in it 36 times and was victorious in 25.
133 – World Cup winner Xavi played 133 times for Spain, making him one of 13 men to have reached a century of caps for the country. Only his former international team-mates Sergio Ramos (162) and Iker Casillas (167) have made more appearances for Spain than him.
1,000 – Xavi is not a prolific goalscoring midfielder, but he recorded the 1,000th goal in the history of the Spanish national team. It came when they beat Northern Ireland 3-2 in a European Championship qualifier in September 2006.

Xavi now wants to have a coaching career. He said: “You will see that my coaching philosophy reflects the style that we were able to develop over many years through the influence of Johan Cruyff, La Masia and the Barcelona way of playing football. I love to see teams taking the initiative on the pitch, playing attacking football and going back to the essence of what we all love about this game since our childhood days; having possession of the football.
I have been privileged to achieve everything that I was able to do over the past two decades.”

World Cup winner Iker Casillas, in a stable condition hospital after suffering a heart attack while training with Porto

FC Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas, 37, has suffered a suspected heart-attack during training.

Casillas suffered a myocardial infarction also known as a heart attack, but was treated quickly and is not in immediate danger. He remains in hospital and is not expected to feature again for Porto in the remainder of their Primeira Liga season.

The former Real Madrid player is the most capped player in UEFA Champions League history with 177 appearances. Casillas also captained Spain to the 2010 World Cup title and holds the record for most appearances at 167.

During his illustrious stay in Madrid, Casillas won La Liga five times while also claiming three Champions League trophies and two Copa del Rey crowns, racking up 725 total appearances for the club in the process.

In total, Casillas helped lead the club to 19 trophies during his time at Madrid and also holds the record for most appearances by a goalkeeper in the FIFPro World XI as well as the record for most ever appearances in the Champions League.

Casillas’ heroics also extended to his play with the national team, as he was a key piece during one of international football’s most successful eras with Spain.

That Spanish team won three major trophies in a row, capturing the 2008 and 2012 Euros and the 2010 World Cup with Casillas starting in each of those finals.

AMD Ryzen 3000 CPUs will boost up to 4.5GHz with 15% Higher IPC & come with PCIe 4th Gen support

As the release of the new gen Ryzen 3000 CPUs getting closer, more and more rumours are flooding in the air. The Zen 2 architecture is on the verge of its an announcement in the upcoming months both for the desktop and server.

Now it’s being said that these new 7nm CPUs will have boost clocks of up to 4.5GHz, and a 15% higher IPC compared to Zen+ architecture. Also, leaks suggest that these new CPUs will have its own new motherboard will make the way for 4th Gen PCIe which is expected to be seen on the upcoming Navi GPUs.

It is also said that motherboard manufacturers including ASUS, Gigabyte and MSI have already received the early Zen 2 samples, and they also have been testing them for compatibility issues on their respective products.

The samples are supposedly having a 15% higher IPC compared to Zen+ architecture and are said to have a boost clock of up to 4.5GHz which is quite impressive and further overclock-able with cooler as obvious. The high end variants like ThreadRipper must have high clock frequency up to 5GHz due to the improved 7nm architecture.

It is reported that the new CPUs will require the X570 chipset motherboards and also the older AM4 motherboards even the A320 socket ones will also not be supported. But one thing is clear, for the rise of new 7nm generation new end motherboards will very much required.

We also hope that this platform will be ready for the new generation of GPUs also by AMD. The Ryzen 3000 lineup is also rumoured to include 40 PCIe lanes, even more than twice of what Intel’s latest 9th Generation CPUs offer.

Now as the launch of the new 7nm products are not far away, in AMD’s next event we will get the idea of the new gen 7nm products both CPUs and GPUs.

Qualcomm recently unveiled three new mid-range chips couple of weeks back, and Xiaomi has confirmed to be using one of them in their next smartphone series in the country.

Xiaomi Global VP and India MD Manu Kumar Jain confirmed. Their next being A series smartphone, the teased handset is being expected to be Mi A3. The upcoming Xiaomi phone will come with the latest Snapdragon 700 series processor.

Xiaomi Smartphone To Come With New Snapdragon 700 Series

The teased smartphone being a Xiaomi series device and not Redmi, we can safely assume that it’s the next Mi A smartphone under Mi series of Xiaomi. Qualcomm announced three new Snapdragon chips: Snapdragon 665, 730 and 730G.

Tweet says that the upcoming Xiaomi phone in India will run on the latest Snapdragon 7_ _ series. It didn’t reveal any further details about the upcoming Xiaomi device, but the previous leaks about Mi A3 hint at being a Xiaomi Mi 9X rip off based on Android One, with features in line with the current bestseller, Redmi Note 7 Pro.

What To Expect?

The smartphone is going to be highly inspired by Redmi Note 7 Pro in India, the current Xiaomi best seller in the country. Starting with the design, the smartphone will come with a glass sandwich body, an upgrade over the current metal build on Mi A2.

It will have a dot notch Full HD+ display on top with a 19.5:9 screen aspect ratio. There has been leaks about an in-display fingerprint sensor as well.

The company will be adding the best Sony IMX 586 48MP sensor. It’s expected to be a dual rear camera system, and a three rear camera setup. The new addition could be a wide angle lens apart from the main and depth sensor.

Mi A3 being an Android One device, will run on the latest Android 9 Pie. Stock Android come with guaranteed version upgrades till Android Q and R. The battery may see an upgrade as well with the support for fast charging. Mi A2 came with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging technology support.

Price and launch date

Finally, coming to the Mi A3 India price, the existence of exclusive features as the new chip, in-display fingerprint sensor, three rear cameras will push the price. Mi A3 is expected to be priced around 17,000 rupees in India.

Mi A3 India launch is expected to happen in May, either in the middle or the last week.

After scoring the only goal against Levante on Saturday which clinched Barcelona’s 26th La Liga title, Messi wrote another page in the history books by becoming the club’s first player to win 10 league titles.

Messi came off the bench in the second half to score a league-leading 34th goal and help Barca wrap up the title with three games remaining.

Barca are nine points clear of Atletico with three games left to play, while Real are trailing way far behind for the second season in a row. The table toppers wrapped up their fourth La Liga title in five years on Saturday.

Messi’s first Barca title came in 2005 when he was 17 years old and he was also a fringe player when he collected his second La Liga medal a year later. But he has been the talisman behind their last eight triumphs, which Barca’s players celebrated by wearing T-shirts with the slogan ‘Eight out of 11, the extraordinary seems normal’.

The podium is completed with Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique‘s respective presences. The no.9 has form a deadly understanding with Messi, while Pique has shaken off a rusty start to the campaign to deliver one of his best in the Blaugrana shirt, striking up an incredible wall at the back with Clement Lenglet.

Alba was discarded from the Spanish setup by Luis Enrique, but forced his way back into the team after combining with Messi so effectively for Barcelona.

But they haven’t become champions themselves, and Ernesto Valverde has led them excellently from the sidelines, making this Barcelona the winning machine that they are.

Barcelona can celebrate another La-Liga Santander title. It has been earned, but there are still challenges ahead. They can still win a treble, but they’ll have to be at their best to see off Liverpool in the Champions League semi-finals, before facing Valencia in the Copa del Rey for their treble.
