Never Thought an Indian Fast Bowler Could Have This Kind of Variety: Karsan Ghavri

Ghavri is especially impressed with Jasprit Bumrah ( the yorker specialist).

Karsan Ghavri was a left arm fast bowler, he played in the time when India was yet to develop fast bowlers, banking primarily on spinners to win matches. He assisted and shared the new ball with the legendary Kapil Dev.

“India has the best fast bowling attack in the world, which is extraordinary,” Ghavri told Hindustan Times during an exclusive conversation. “Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar… you cannot go wrong with these guys. They’ve been performing extremely well. To win a Test match, you need to take 20 wickets and due to these bowlers, India have been able to do so regularly and effectively.”

Earlier this year, Bumrah won the Polly Umrigar Award, for being at the forefront of India’s fast bowling contingent’s rise, playing a pivotal role in all three formats. Since making his Test debut in January 2018, Bumrah has played 14 Tests and already taken 68 wickets at an average of 20.33 including five five-wicket hauls. He scalped 21 wickets during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar trophy, a series in which India made history by beating Australia on their soil for the first time in 71 years.

Since his debut in 2016, Bumrah, with his unconventional action, has become an India mainstay across formats.

“In the beginning, when he started playing Ranji Trophy for Gujarat. No one thought he would scale the peak he has because he had this unconventional action like Malinga,” He says. “He’s an extremely different bowler; he is no Dennis Lille or a Michael Holding. He’s worked extremely hard to reach where he has because with that sort of action, for Bumrah to maintain the kind of accuracy he has, is commendable. I never thought a fast bowler could have the kind of variety Bumrah has.”

Jasprit Bumrah is the first Indian to have taken a five-wicket haul in South Africa, England, Australia and West Indies.

Ghavri has played a total of 58 international matches, 39 Tests and 19 ODIs between 1975 and 1981. He is also impressed with the consistency with which Bumrah deliveries pinpoint yorkers.

“Initially, people thought he could only bowl inswingers, but today he can make the ball go away. Besides, he can bowl the best yorkers. He executes it nine out of ten times, which is something I thought I’d never see from an Indian bowler. He’s got a threatening bouncer and at the same time, an excellent slower bouncer. He’s the perfect all-round fast-bowling package,” Ghavri said to Hindustan Times.

Online Gaming in India Jumps on the Anti-COVID-19 Campaign Bandwagon

0

Lots of industries have been struck by the coronavirus outbreak. From educational institutions to automobile repair shops, businesses that are not used to working remotely found themselves in the dark.

However, some industries in India experienced a significant increase in interest. One of them is online gaming, also known as iGaming.

Distancing Doesn’t Mean Isolation

While the likes of kindergartens and schools and suffered a shock, freelancers and professional gamers rejoiced. It took them little to no effort to adapt to the new circumstances due to COVID-19. Actually, it seemed to be favourable to online gamers.

Multiplayer games specifically appeared in the spotlight of online gaming. Customers figured out that being at home didn’t equal seclusion. Instead, in online gaming, they found a way to reconnect with friends and even make new ones.

Online Gaming in India Jumps on the Anti-COVID-19 Campaign Bandwagon

The social aspect of virtual gaming rose to public awareness in these dark times. This hobby allowed people social interaction from a safe distance. In turn, players didn’t feel like they were actually in quarantine.

This feeling of socialisation is particularly present in the live dealer sector. Numerous online casinos feature a live casino lobby, in which real-life croupiers deal for players. Not only do clients get to look at a dealer work his or her magic, but they can also chat with them live.

Live dealer games allow direct communication with fellow players and dealers in real-time. This unique and authentic experience was soon discovered to be just the thing Indians needed.

Witnessing the evident boom, states found themselves face-to-face with the sudden interest rise in iGaming.

Tweaking Gambling Laws

It is widely known that Goa is one of the most open Indian states when it comes to gambling. Goa’s land-based casinos and gambling ships match world-class gambling establishments. For that reason, the residents of Goa flock to enjoy the pleasures of both in-person gambling and that in a brick-and-mortar edifice.

Other states, like Sikkim, are stricter. They ban all gambling activity that involves any segment based on luck whatsoever. According to the Gambling Regulation Act of 2008, the citizens of Sikkim are prohibited from playing poker, roulette and even blackjack. Exercising a skill and resourcefulness is encouraged, but again, to an extent. Enjoying games that are entirely dependent on luck is not permissible in the area.

Online Gaming in India Jumps on the Anti-COVID-19 Campaign Bandwagon

Nevertheless, it is possible to apply for a license in the state, though the grant is nowhere easy to be acquired. The state reserves the rights to refuse the potential’s licensee’s request provided the regulator just lists reasons.

Against all odds, online gaming has managed to rise. The people of India are more and more interested in the trade, and the numbers show it. The unexpected arrival of the global pandemic further boosted the increase of popularity of iGaming. Gaming portals like Paytm First Games and Gamerji went through a 200% and 50% rise in the number of consumers in the past two months. Since the beginning of the epidemic, more than 500,000 users spend at least half an hour playing online daily.

Can They Keep the Vogue?

From what we all can see, the future of online gaming looks as bright as the Sun.

The industry will inevitably be a lot of people’s haven for the duration of the state of emergency. Nevertheless, what will happen after it’s all gone?

As the creators and designers within iGaming keep coming up with new, immersive releases and products, more and more people will likely grow curious about it. Online gaming is a fun activity that joins together both millennials and boomers, as well as the elderly.

Additionally, it’s a safe hobby, provided that it’s exercised properly. Industry leaders reinforce gambling awareness and run projects concerning responsible gaming. As long as Indians practise social responsibility, both in iGaming and during the pandemic, everyone’s a winner.
