NVIDIA launches new GTX 1650 GPU & 1660 Ti for gaming laptops

Finally, NVIDIA announces its budget graphics card GeForce GTX 1650 and shows off 1660 Ti graphics powered gaming laptops

After a lot of speculations and leaks, finally, graphics giant NVIDIA announces its new budget end graphics cards – GTX 1650 and also announces GTX 1660 Ti graphics for gaming laptops based on their new Turing architecture.

The GeForce GTX 1650 is a starter GPU that aims to provide the perks of modern games with complex shader effects at a starting price of just $149. This is a significant upgrade from its successor GTX 1050.

On the other hand, the improved 1660 i.e the new GeForce GTX 1660 Ti is a slight improvement from its newly launched brother, with more cores and higher memory clock speeds. The GTX 1660 Ti will power gaming laptops using NVIDIA’s famous Max-Q technology.

GTX 1650

This new GPU is based on the TU117 die which includes all of the new Turing shader innovations that helps improve performance and efficiency. Also, there’s support for concurrent floating point and integer operations, a unified cache architecture with larger L1 cache, and includes adaptive shading.

The GeForce GTX1650 has just 896 CUDA cores with a 1,485MHz base clock frequency. It has a 128-bit memory bus architecture instead of a 192-bit bus, and a 4GB of GDDR5 memory in place of 6GB which we see in the GTX 1660. The boost clock frequency of this GPU is 1,665MHz.

The GPU is based on the TSMC’s 12nm architecture and has a low TDP of just 75 Watt. Like the 1660 GPU, this GPU also has a memory clock speed of 8GB/s.

NVIDIA even claims that the GTX 1650 is twice as fast as the GTX 950, and up to 70% faster than the GTX 1050 at 1080p only for heavy modern titles like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Forza Horizon 4, Battlefield V and others.

The GTX 1650 boards are coming from brands like ASUS, Colorful, EVGA, Gainward, Galaxy, Gigabyte, Innovision 3D, MSI, Palit, PNY, and Zotac.

GTX 1660 Ti

A quick recap of the specs:

The Ti version of the 1660 GPU has incredible performance due to its solid specs. The GeForce GTX 1660 Ti has 1536 CUDA cores, higher than its new brother.

Also, it is based on the same TSMC’s 12nm Turing architecture with a 192-bit memory bus architecture. The main difference between the 1660 and 1660 Ti is in the memory bandwidth and memory clock speed.

With the 1660 Ti, you get a 6GB of VRAM but this time it’s a GDDR6 memory. It has 12GB/s memory clock speed and 288.1GB/s memory bandwidth. For the clock frequency, we have a minor increase when compared to its brother 1660.

The 1660 Ti has a base clock frequency of 1530MHz and a boost clock frequency of 1785MHz.

Performance

The GTX 1650 GPU has a good increase of performance against its old 1050 or 1050 Ti, but it fails to beat its same price competitor, AMD’s RX 570 in almost all the scenarios in spite of being 2 years old GPU.

Both the 1660 and 1660 Ti crushes the RX 590 GPU and the new GTX 1660 Ti even crushes the old GTX 1070 in a lot of modern triple AAA gaming titles. This makes both of the GPUs an ideal choice for gamers.

Coming to the modern eSports titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, these titles have been well optimized by NVIDIA which makes the 1660 Ti beat the RX Vega 56 and GTX 1070.

AMD optimized titles like Resident Evil 2, The Division 2, World War Z, Far Cry New Dawn work much more better with the less costly AMD Polaris GPUs.

GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1650 Max-Q GPUs for Gaming Laptops

For the modern day budget gaming laptops which used to run on the older GTX 1050, 1050 Ti and GTX 1060 will now onwards be powered by the GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1650 Max-Q GPUs.

These GPUs promises up to 50 percent more gaming performance than last-gen GTX 1060 laptops and up to four times the performance of GTX 960M.

Featuring in laptops with a starting price of $1,000, NVIDIA says that the standard GeForce GTX 1660 Ti can even deliver 100 FPS in modern popular Battle Royale titles like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and PUBG.

On the other hand, the $800-plus priced laptop sporting the new GTX 1650, promises to provide at least a 60 FPS in those eSports titles at 1080p resolution and at high settings.

Due to the Max-Q technology, you’ll get the same graphical performance at half the TDP of the original desktop GPUs. NVIDIA’s good optimizations and little software tricks like adaptive shading reduce the GPU load.

The Max-Q tech helps keep the gaming laptops slimmer and lighter. The GTX 1660 Ti powered laptops will mostly weigh under five pounds, and some of the GTX 1650 models will just weigh about four pounds.

The NVIDIA GTX 1660 Ti and GTX 1650 Max-Q GPUs will be launched in a record 80 gaming laptops by various brands like ASUS ROG, Acer, Predator, MSI, Lenovo and others.

With the up coming latest and likely the biggest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the way this week, Epic Games has teased the next crossover event for Fortnite Battle Royale. Much as it did last year to tie in with the release of Avengers: Infinity War, some kind of event or game mode will debut in Fortnite later this week.

The tweet was accompanied by the image you see below, with a Fortnite character holding Captain America’s iconic shield. Similarly, a second teaser showed off a hand clasping Thor’s Stormbreaker axe, so the mode may include several different pieces of marvel equipment.

The game mode allowed you to equip the Infinity Gauntle and transform into Thanos, allowing you to play as the big bad guy from the MCU. PSG were already confirmed as Ligue 1 champions after second-placed Lille drew 0-0 with Toulouse. They won their 6th Ligue 1 title in 7 years.

With that hat-trick against Monaco, Mbappe is now the first Frenchman to score 30 goals in a single Ligue 1 campaign since Jean-Pierre Papin in 1989/90.
At the age of 20, Mbappe is the youngest player to score 30 goals in a single Ligue 1 campaign.
While scoring the opening goal, Mbappe clocked a speed of 38 km/hr. In 2017, it was revealed that Gareth Bale was the fastest player in the world after registering a speed of 36.9 km/hr.
Mbappe has now scored three hat-tricks in Ligue 1 this season. One more than his nearest rival Edinson Cavani.
Only two players in Europe’s top five leagues have scored 30+ league goals this season: Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

There is another title on the line for PSG next Saturday as they face Rennes in the Coupe de France final.

Performance

TSMC unveils its new 6nm chip manufacturing process

Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturing giant TSMC announces 6nm chip manufacturing process, a cost-effective enhancement of its industry-leading 7nm tech

In the past few years, TSMC is making some great improvements in technology that is helping to bring an evolution to the Silicon Industry. The same company is responsible to serve tech giants like Apple, Qualcomm, Huawei AMD, NVIDIA and others.

The recent 7nm manufacturing process is laid down by TSMC only, which is helping to bring innovation by giants like Qualcomm, Huawei, AMD who have brought products like Snapdragon 855, Kirin 980, Radeon VII based on this same technology.

TSMC recently has announced a new 6 nanometer or N6 process for manufacturing smartphone processors. The new 6nm process not only provides a significant enhancement of its industry-leading 7nm technology but also offers customers with highly competitive performance-to-cost advantage.

The new 6nm technology will incorporate the same extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography that was previously gained from the N7+ technology. TSMC unveiled its N7+ process which involves the incorporation of EUV on TSMC’s original 7nm lithography.

This process will be used on Huawei’s Hisilicon Kirin 985 chip which is said to have entered risk production. TSMC has also served Apple by providing the 7nm design for their A12 Bionic chip, and also Apple will be using the 7nm+ architecture or N7+ process for the upcoming A13 chip.

The new 6nm process delivers up to 18% higher logic density over the original 7nm process despite having the design rules fully compatible with TSMC’s successful N7 technology.

This compatibility helps its comprehensive 7nm design ecosystem to be reused for the newer one, which in turn helps in seamless migration path with a fast design cycle time.

When we have just entered the era of products based on 7nm chips, the manufacture of 6nm chips have already been started in risk production and by 2020 we can see devices using these chips in masses.

The cost-effective benefits of the 6nm process range from improvement in AI, consumer applications, networking, 5G infrastructure, GPU, and high-performance computing.

So next we can not only expect more 7nm chips but also we will see 7nm ‘Pro’ chips based on N7+ process by 2019.

Ajax: The story of incredible comebacks

Ajax have beaten Juventus 2-1 in Turin and becomes the first Champions League team to come through three qualifying rounds and reach the semi-finals.

Ajax are as good as any team in this competition. And they have not reached the semi-finals by fluke. They thoroughly deserved the wins – previously in Madrid and now in Turin. No one would have predicted Ajax to make it to the last four of the Champions League at the start of the season. But they have been the story of incredible comebacks. Ajax have quality in every department and they totally outclassed Real Madrid and Juventus with their brand of Total Football.

The 1st leg semi-final score was 1-1 in Amsterdam. In the 2nd leg the Bianconeri appeared on course to progress to the semi-final after Ronaldo scored his 126th Champions League goal in the 28th minute. But the young Ajax team had other stories in their mind. Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt scored either side of half-time to overturn Cristiano Ronaldo’s opening header. Ajax are through to the semi-finals of the Champions League for the first time since 1997.

Cristiano Ronaldo will not feature in the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since 2009-10. Ronaldo’s run of eight consecutive semi-finals and three successive titles came to an end after they are beaten by Ajax in the quarter-finals. There are some things which Ronaldo can’t always do on his own. He scored a hattrick against Atletico Madrid to progress through to the quarter-finals. He also scored a goal apiece in both the legs of the semi-finals against Ajax. But as a whole, the Juventus team looks weaker. Though by any means, we aren’t taking any credit away from the young and determined Ajax side. The night belonged to the young Ajax attacking midfielder Donny van de Beek.

Van de Beek said: “Everyone is going crazy, Ajax are in the semi-final! If we’d said that at the start of the season, people would’ve laughed at us. This is a fantastic result for the whole of the Netherlands. None of us will ever forget this night. To be honest, we were the better team in the first half too. Obviously, in the second half we were the far better team.I thought we should’ve won 4-1. When we were 2-1 up, I was already thinking ahead to the semi-final, trying to make sure I didn’t get booked.”

Ajax coach Ten Hag told reporters: “I think it was an incredible night for Ajax, the players and all of Dutch football. We have again knocked out one of the Champions League favourites, as with our philosophy, we can go beyond our limitations and we’ve done it again.
You could see that Juve were a little scared of us and so were Real Madrid. It is very difficult to play against our style of football, as we have very technically-gifted players and it’s tough to press us. Even in defence, only we know how to perform that variable pressing game.
We played the first leg well, so we had confidence and also patience, which we needed to escape the Juve pressing in the first half. During the half-time break, we talked about the pressing on Emre Can, as the wingers had to push forward more, keeping Lasse Schone and Frenkie de Jong closer together. The spaces opened up and we could go to attack. Juventus had to defend at that moment, but we went 2-1 up and had many more scoring opportunities.
Our tie with Real Madrid was similar, as again we should’ve scored more goals in Amsterdam. We need to convert more of our chances and kill games off earlier. Having said that, I am very happy and proud of the team and the whole staff.”

Juventus head coach Massimiliano Allegri told: “Juventus always have the same objective: winning everything. Sometimes you can reach the final, sometimes you can’t. I would not say that this is our worst elimination. I think that in the last five years we have done a good job. Many players improved, we have many young players in the team, and in any case to win the league is not easy, to play two Champions League finals is not easy, to win Coppa Italia four times is not easy, to win Supercoppa Italiana twice is not easy. Otherwise, it seems that everything comes easy.”

Allegri further added: “First of all, Ajax deserved to go through because three out of four halves – the two halves in Amsterdam and the first half in Turin – were even. In the second half [in Turin] they did better because we lost cohesion and they created many chances. Then, maybe we conceded a goal that we shouldn’t have, but overall I would say that they deserved to go through to the next round.
Ajax have very good players, they play very good football. Two years ago they played the Europa League final. They are not newcomers. You don’t score five goals against Real Madrid by chance.”

Frenkie De Jong is hopeful that they can win the Champions League too. He said: “I do not know if this is the best match of our lives but it went well. In Madrid it was harder because we lost in the first leg. Juve are very strong, very disciplined, we showed in the second half the team we could be. The coach asked the same things as usual, play high and play possession.
Win the Champions League? We are in the semi-finals, we have a chance but we are not favourites. But of course, it’s always possible.”

Ajax will face Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final. Ten Hag said: “If we play the way we did against Real Madrid and Juventus, then we ought to feel confident against them too.”
