Is Alex Telles the man who can solve Manchester United’s defensive problem?

0

After a very disastrous transfer window, Manchester United finally signed some of their targets on the deadline day. Brazillian left-back Alex Telles is one of them.

Alex Telles joined Manchester United from the Portuguese side, FC Porto, in a 4-year deal. The 27-year-old joined Manchester United for $19.91 million. He is surely going to offer a great competition to Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for the starting spot.

Alex Telles has scored 13 goals for Porto last season. He will take the No. 27 jersey at United. In an interview, he was asked about what he can offer to his new club. He said, β€œI like to think of myself as a very intelligent player, a set-piece specialist and I’m always looking for opportunities to create passes to score goals.”

β€œI’m in the best moment of my life in terms of being a versatile player, and obviously coming to play in the Premier League and playing against the opponents I have done already, and playing in a league as strong as the Premier League. I hope to be able to bring my best to the club.”

β€œI look at being a defender in a different way with my goals. I’m looking to create more openings wherever possible but during training, I also pay particular attention to set-piece training. Apart from the key basics of being a defender, which is obviously about defending well, I want to have extra aspects to my game so I’m a versatile player.”

β€œI have great beliefs in my defensive capabilities but also in my attacking ability. I’m in the best moment of my career and I believe I’ve grown a lot, and hopefully I can continue to do so.”

Alex Telles is so good from spot-kicks as well. He will surely increase the attacking ability for Manchester United along with the defensive stability.

Top 5 Biggest Spenders in the Premier League 2020-21 season: Who will make the biggest impact of them all?

0

The Premier League clubs spent close to Β£1 billion yet again in this summer’s transfer window. Five of these clubs however have spent with the intention of making it big this season.

Here we take a look a how these clubs have performed so far and how they are poised for the future:

5) Manchester United [Β£75.15m]

Manchester United transfer window 2020 recap - The Busby Babe

Although they made a few signings late on deadline day, United look decently stocked across all areas of the pitch. It would definitely hurt not having bought a player like Jadon Sancho. They will do well to fight for the Europa League positions. Edinson Cavani is a proven goal threat, while Telles offers a different dimension on the left flank both in terms of attack and defence.Β

4) Arsenal [Β£77.4m]

Thomas Partey: Arsenal's Β£45m midfielder is a 'physical marvel' who 'does everything well' | Football News | Sky Sports

Perhaps the smartest spenders among all teams, Arsenal have brought in players in the areas they were most deficient. The likes of Gabriel, Thomas Partey, Cedric and Pablo Mari are signings that effectively improve the quality of the team as well as give squad depth options. In their pursuit of Champions’ League football, Arsenal currently sit fourth with 9 points.Β

3) Leeds United [Β£94.68m]

Rodrigo's first Leeds goal earns fighting draw against Manchester City | Football | The Guardian

A real dark horse for finishing in the top half of the Premier League, Leeds United have certainly announced their arrival in style. The chairman has made sure that his manager has gotten sufficient backing, with key signings of Rodrigo, Koch, Raphinha and Diego Llorente. The way Leeds are going, it seems like they might do enough than just survive.Β

2) Manchester City [Β£141.12m]

Ruben Dias: Manchester City sign Benfica defender in Β£65m deal | Football News | Sky Sports

This summer saw City spend once again on defensive reinforcements that needed resolving. Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake will look to provide a boost in those key areas and seek to stem the flow of goals. Ferran Torres has been brought in as a direct replacement to Leroy Sane. The Citizens, of course, are gunning for the title but have not proved their worth so far.

1) Chelsea [Β£222.48m]

Timo Werner and Kai Havertz are 'great', says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp | Football News | Sky Sports

The club which spent the most in this window has seen their signings adapt quite quickly to the league. Timo Werner and Kai Havertz in particular, have shown flickers of brilliance. Having spent north of Β£200m, Lampard and Chelsea seem poised to be a good contender for the title race.

Microsoft to release its xCloud as a web-service for iOS and iPadOS

0

Microsoft’s xCloud streaming service is the Netflix of streaming gaming services. Offering the users to play games as long as they have a subscription is a pretty good strategy, especially when users don’t have to worry about the hardware limitations which come along with their smartphones. I mean come on, not everyone can afford a ROG phone.

Earlier we reported that Microsoft is in talks of releasing its xCloud streaming service for iOS devices. But, the attempts of the Redmund-based software manufacturer were put on hold due to Apple’s exhaustive App Store Policy’s for game streaming devices.

However, Microsoft is now working on a β€œdirect browser-based solution” for its xCloud to bring the service to iOS as early as next year.

The window’s creator is developing a web version of its xCloud to make it run on iOS and iPadOS devices. The company however is also continuing its work to develop an xCloud streaming app which the company will also β€œeventually” run on Apple’s platform.

Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, revealed that the company is determined to make its impact on iOS and iPadOS. The company wants to launch its Game Pass for Apple’s devices and is determined to also bring its App in the near future.

Why the delay in xCloud release on iOS?

The Cupertino giant has been consistent in blocking services like Microsoft’s xCloud and Google’s Stadia from running on iOS devices via its App Store. Recently, Apple offered a chance for gaming streaming platforms to launch their services via the App store if they satisfy its App Store policies. These policies, however, meant additional work for the streaming services and it would be quite troublesome for them to comply with all the policies.

Apple’s policies insist the developers to individually submit their games as separate apps on the App Store that use their streaming tech. The game streaming companies are even advised to create a separate β€œcatalog” style app as a collection of links out to all of their individual game apps. Really Apple, isn’t it pushing it too far?

This approach by the Cupertino giant didn’t sit well with Microsoft. Hence, the company left its xCloud App development on hold and is moving forward with its web-based xCloud version for Apple’s devices. This will allow Microsoft to bypass Apple’s App Store policies.

Whether we will see xCloud being released on App Store depends on Microsoft and Apple reaching a common ground. But the Cupertino giant isn’t showing any signs of backing down from its proposed approach.

Apple’s new ARM-based SoCs core config gets leaked out

The tech industry has seen ripples of change caused by the semiconductor war. We have seen many changes happening in the silicon manufacturing market. With Nvidia’s acquisition of ARM to Intel releasing its 10nm process 11th gen processors, many of the semiconductor manufacturing giants have increased their game.

Now, let’s talk about the world’s largest and richest tech industry, Apple. We have seen Apple releasing its own in-house manufactured A13 Bionic, which is a beast among mobile semiconductors. It has outperformed all the established players in the mobile SoC market and took the throne as the fastest mobile processor.

Rumours have been making rounds that its own in-house silicon powers the Cupertino giant plans on releasing all its future MacBook. The new MacBook’s will sport the new processor based on ARM architecture and will be released in the fourth quarter of 2020, but it looks like we may still have to wait till 2021 for the new MacBook’s arrival.

But a leak has just finally given us a small glimpse of what the new chips are really offering.

A leaker namely Komiya twitted saying that the Cupertino giant now has two chips in the store, and they will feature eight and twelve cores, respectively. As of now, any confirmation on the actual configuration of these cores is not yet known.

Since the new SoC will be powering the new MacBook’s we expect the silicon’s to pack more punch to uphold the MacBook legacy. Therefore, an Ultra-high-performance, high-performance and efficiency combined with numbers like 2+2+4 and 4+4+4 are necessary.

The leaker has also said that Apple will be launching aΒ sixteen-core versionΒ of this new processor by next year.

We also know that the renowned Apple analyst, Ming Cho Kuo has speculated that the new silicon will debut alongside apples 13-inch MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.

Whether all this speculations and rumors are true, we have to wait till next year to receive any official confirmation. But it would be interesting to see apple trying to capture the throne of notebook SoC market.

Gambling and online games in 2020

0

You might think that playing online games has nothing to do with gambling. However, there are a growing number of players and experts who are vehemently arguing the opposite. The main focus of this growing discussion centres around consumer items falling under the broad label of ‘loot boxes’.

Critics argue that there is no difference between buying loot box-style items and logging into a plush online casino. Several countries have already made the step of legally labelling them gambling. In other countries, for now, it’s still a grey area, a hotly debated one at that.

What are loot boxes?

Loot boxes and their counterparts generally all work in a similar way. Gamers pay real money for a virtual box or container that awards the purchaser with mods or items they can use in a specific game. The thing is, gamers have no idea what is in the box. It could be the most incredible upgrade possible, or something they find completely useless.

Let’s look at a popular example – Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. In this game, players can buy weapon cases which contain skins that change the appearance of players’ weapons. These skins can be common, or they may be rare, in which case they can be sold on for a stack of real-world money. There is simply no way of knowing what is in them.

Another example is Fifa’s player packs which contain different football players which can be inserted into the user’s team. Again, these player packs contain common or desirable rare footballers which can seriously ramp up a team’s capabilities. Other popular games to offer loot boxes include:

  • Star Wars Battlefront II
  • Overwatch
  • Madden
  • Path of Exile
  • Fortnite

Loot boxes are a huge revenue stream for the developers of these games. As an example, EA reported revenue of $650 million from sales of its Ultimate Team pack in 2016 which is around a third of the revenue from their digital sales. With so much money at stake, they are not going down without a fight.

The case to label loot boxes gambling

The issue has arisen because some people, including minors, are racking up huge bills buying these loot boxes. Some have spent thousands, exhibiting compulsive behaviours similar to problem gamblers. As such, regulators around the globe are scrambling to introduce legislation that would label loot boxes as ‘gambling’.

Ryan Morrison dubbed The Video Game Attorney has no qualms labelling loot boxes as gambling. In his words – ‘… you’re buying something that has odds to it that you are unaware of, that’s chance, and you’re getting something that you value or don’t value.’

Indeed, several EU nations have been quick to act, none more so than Belgium which decided that loot boxes do fall under their gambling laws. This caused several studios to stop offering loot boxes in their games in that country rather than obtain a gambling license.

Conclusion

For now, without legislation, there is little chance of software developers pulling loot boxes from their games any time soon. For one, it’s a major cash cow, for two, the vast majority of gamers enjoy the service without exhibiting gambling tendencies. For now, the ball is firmly in governments’ courts. Will a blanket law change come about? For now, the answer to that is far from clear cut.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon to sport 11th gen Core i7 CPUs and 16:10 display

0

Lenovo has recently upgraded its ThinkPad and ThinkBook series to include Intel’s latest 11th gen Tiger Lake processors. Rumours have been making rounds that Lenovo plans on upgrading its Yoga series with the latest 11th gen SoCs, with leaker WhiteCat providing us with the first look of Lenovo’s next Yoga Carbon laptop, in a product leak video a few months back.

Now however the same leaker WalkingCat has suggested that the rumoured device is actually the new Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon.

The laptop will sport a 13.3-inch QHD screen. Coming with 100% of sRGB coverage, the laptop has a peak brightness of 300 nits. Not to mention, the new Yoga Slim 7i will have a 16:10 display ratio. The company will offer the device with up to 16 GB of LPDDR4X RAM. The notebook will have a 1 TB M.2 PCIe SSD.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Carbon will be powered by Intel’s latest 11th generation i& processors.

The processor’s line-up for the new device includes Core i7-1165G7 or preferably Core i7-1185G7. Rumours even suggest that the laptop will have at least one variant with the 11th generation i5 processor.

The Yoga Slim 7i Carbon will have a 50 Wh battery offering a 65 W charge. The notebook will sport only Type-C ports, which is a first from Lenovo. The charge port provided in the notebook also seems to be a Type-C. Two of the Type-C ports offered in the device supports the new Thunderbolt 4 standard. The company has also provided a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

The device does not offer an integrated fingerprint scanner. But the leaker suggests that the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon will sport an IR camera to support Windows Hello. The notebook will reportedly weigh less than 1kg.

The availability and pricing of the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon have not been provided as of now. However, the device is expected to be available for the first quarter of 2021.
