ISL 2020-21: All you need to know before the tournament starts on 20th November

The seventh edition of Indian Super League is set to commence on 20th November in Goa. A bio-secure bubble has been created to handle the situation due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

All the ISL matches will be played out across three venues in Goa – the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Fatorda, the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Vasco and the GMC Athletic Stadium in Bambolim. The matches will be played behind closed doors. It will be broadcasted on Star Sports channels and will also be live-streamed on Hotstar and Jio TV.

All the 11 teams have already arrived in Goa and have spent their quarantine days and are now training and playing friendly games in order to be prepared for the ISL 2020-21 season. ATK Mohun Bagan will take on the Kerala Blasters in the inaugural match of this ISL season on 20th November.

ATK creates history, wins third ISL in style — via ISL

In this ISL season, there will be 115 games, up from 95 last season due to the league being expanded to 11 teams from this season.

All the clubs will play each other in a double round-robin format. After the league stage is over, the the the top four clubs will qualify for the playoffs.

In accordance with the rule put forward on world football, ISL will also allow five substitutions instead of the previous three. This has been done keeping in mind players’ health and safety during the ongoing pandemic. Teams can use their five substitutes over a maximum of three intervals excluding the changes at the half-time break.

All the clubs should have at least five foreign players and the number could rise up to seven foreign players at maximum. Among the foreign layers, at least one of them will have to be Asian Football Confederation (AFC) affiliated.

A maximum of five of these foreign players can be on the field at any point of a game along with a minimum of six Indians. Along with that, all clubs are required to have a minimum of two ‘Developmental Players’, players who were born on or after January 1, 2000, in their matchday teams.

OnePlus 9 Series will come with two models, Launch Rumoured for March 2021

As per a recent report, we’ve just come to know that the OnePlus 9 series will not include the third model. That means, there will be only two models in the upcoming OnePlus 9 series. A previous leak has suggested that the OnePlus 9 will bring a whole bunch of three smartphones. But the record of OnePlus tells that it launches two flagship segments in one series. Just like at the time of the OnePlus 7, the company launched OnePlus 7T and the 7T Pro. Both of them have come as a mid-year refresher to the OnePlus 7 series.

So, the same thing falls on the OnePlus 9 series as well. It is expected that OnePlus will launch one regular variant OnePlus 9 and one Pro variant OnePlus 9 Pro. Both of them are likely to make the debut in the middle of March 2021. The third model that was expected before is said to be the OnePlus 9 Ultra or OnePlus 9T. In terms of model numbers, tipsters have claimed that the OnePlus 9 will be available with model numbers: LE2110, LE2117, and LE2119 whereas the OnePlus 9 Pro will be available with model numbers: LE2120 and LE2127.

The current pandemic has brought forth many changes in the world. The significant change which was brought forth by the epidemic was our dependency on technology. With this comes various challenges as technology is both beneficial as well as comes with its own risk.

Considering the recent developments, the government of India made a new announcement. The government-supported telecom sector event India Mobile Congress (IMC) will be held through virtual mode between December 8-10.

Telecom Secretary Anshu Prakash said, “We have to rise to the occasion. I am told that this (is the) largest technology event in South Asia. We should build upon it. DoT is funding at least 30 SMEs (small and medium enterprises) and start-ups to participate in this event”.

Sources claim a considerable debate about whether the event must be postponed or skipped to be conducted in 2021. But considering the profound changes brought forth by the pandemic in the technology market, the congress was mandatory.

Minister of State for Communication Sanjay Dhotre said, “Telecom sector has emerged as the backbone of digital infrastructure. COVID-19 has brought many challenges, but the telecom sector has proved its mettle. We believe IMC 2020 will showcase technology-driven initiatives”.

In a video message, he also said that the number of base stations has grown by 220 percent in the last six years, and mobile telephony has reached all corners of the country.

STRENGTH

Much like a few ISL rival clubs, East Bengal have not had issues finding the back of the net. In the 2019/20 I-League season, they were joint-third highest goal scorers with a total of 23 goals in 16 games. They also have experienced closing out games during dying moments, even if it means being defensively packed and securing narrow victories.

WEAKNESS

As has been the case with a few football teams around the world, a heavy influx of transfers into the club as well as having a new coach at the helm could prove to be a case of not having enough understanding on the pitch. There is also the challenge of uncertainty of adapting to a new league and fighting opponents with better quality overall.

KEY PLAYER

Is there any need to look beyond Irish international and former Wigan winger, Anthony Pilkington? The fact that such quality players have entered Indian football is a big deal, and he will be keen to test himself to the ruggedness of the same. Pilkington had previously scored 14 goals and 5 assists in 75 Premier League appearances.

PREDICTED TABLE FINISH

5^thPlace – For their maiden appearance in the ISL, East Bengal might just about miss out on the playoffs for the sole fact that they have no experience in this league and have too many players who may not be able to develop an understanding that quickly.

The parameters and benchmark should be the same. Rohit has led his team to five IPL titles.”

Former England captain Michael Vaughan tweeted, “Without question, Rohit Sharma should be the Indian T20 captain, fantastic man-manager and leader and he knows exactly how to win T20. games, it would also give Virat a chance to take a breather and just be the player, it works for all other teams around the world.”

Virat Kohli is the captain of India in all formats. Though he yet to win an IPL trophy with his IPL team Royal Challengers Bangalore but his record as Indian Captain is decent enough. It will be harsh to take away the captaincy from him on the basis of his performance in IPL.

After a long-awaited period, the Indian Super League is now scheduled to begin on 20th November in the state of Goa. Considering the health protocols in place and the infrastructure needed to set up a fully functioning football league, ISL has taken some great steps to ensure the same.

However, now a fresh problem has arisen in the form of local Goan vendors not being supplied with logistical contracts and as a result of this, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee have threatened to stop proceedings even before the league has begun.

The party believe that not all requisite components need to be outsourced to other states. And that while their state is undertaking majority responsibilities of conducting the league, the local businesses of Goa should also prosper at the same time, especially considering the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.

ISL 2020-21 : Great news for Indian Super League, ministry clears foreign players participation in ISL

GPCC vice-president Sankalp Amonkar is quoted as saying, “We don’t have any issues with the organisers of the ISL. We just want the Goan people to gain some benefit from the tournament. People have suffered because of the pandemic and now when games are being held here, the locals must benefit.”

This development comes a few days after Goa chief minister Dr Pramod Sawant was forced to play political mediator between transport operators and league organizers after there was a threat of legal action by the former against ISL considering they were using other vehicles for intra-state travelling.
