Arsene Werner wants a few changes in the rules of football

0

With the introduction of Video Assistant Referee (VAR), it was expected that the footballing decisions’ debates will be over.

But, we have been proved wrong as VAR often gives decisions keeping apart the common sense or marginal errors. There are some football rules which have also come into criticism in recent times.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who is now the FIFA’s new Chief of Global Football Development wants to change few football rules.

Speaking in an interview with L’Équipe, Wenger said:

“I think that the new rule that allows you to play in the box from the start of play within 5.5m has profoundly changed play. I have to admit that I did not see it coming. This has consequences. The real playmaker now is the goalkeeper. And instead of looking to play as quickly as possible in the opposition half, you are looking to create space in your own box. This has created dangerous situations because teams press very hard, so well that they leave a lot of space. And this rule, which was innocent at the start, has profoundly turned the game upside down.”

“For the moment, you are offside if a part of your body that you can score with sits ahead of the body of a defender. I would like it to be that there is no offside so long as a (single) body part which a player can score with is in line with the defender. This could be too much of an advantage for an attacker because that obliges the defenders to play higher up. We are also considering other things: an in-swinging corner that goes out of play and comes back in could be made valid, this would create new goalscoring opportunities. There is also the option of quickly playing a free-kick to yourself. I would also like to change the throw-in rule: five minutes before the end, a throw-in for you should be an advantage, but in these situations, you are facing 10 outfield players in play, whilst you only have 9. Stats show that in 8 out of 10 of those throw-in situations, you lose the ball. In your half of the pitch, you should have the possibility to take a kick instead.”

Maybe all of Wenger’s idea won’t benefit football but some of them are really good to have a look into it.

Top 10 most influential transfers of the summer transfer window in 2020

Although the coronavirus pandemic had affected sporting activities on a large scale, football is now slowly coming to grips with the reality. But that did not restrict clubs from making transfers, instead of finding innovative solutions and fierce negotiations to seal the deals for their respective teams.

Here we take a look at the top 10 signings of this window and how these players could influence their clubs:

1) Kai Havertz – Chelsea

The most expensive player in this window, Chelsea loosened their purse strings to capture Bayer Leverkusen wonderkid, Kai Havertz. Aged just 20, he is potentially the next big thing in football. Havertz will play a variety of roles at Chelsea and with his skills and trickery, look to be the central figure at Stamford Bridge.

2) Arthur Melo – Juventus

Causing quite the controversy this summer, Arthur was reluctant to leave Barcelona at first. But after being convinced by Juventus’ project, he made the move. The young Brazilian midfielder is the perfect example of a box-to-box midfielder. Possessing stamina and great passing ability, he will look to be a lynchpin for the Bianconeri in the middle of the park and pull the strings of their playing style.

3) Victor Osimhen – Napoli

With main striker Milik now excluded out of the squad and Dries Mertens ageing, the youthful power of big money signing Osimhen will have to deliver from the word go. Signed for a fee of 70 million euros, the Nigerian striker formerly of Lille has loads of talent and potential. And with more quality players now at Napoli, will receive sufficient service and chances to convert those. He will be a key player in Napoli’s bid to return to the Champions’ League.

4) Mauro Icardi – PSG

After the Champions’ League final in Lisbon, several questions were asked of how PSG’s attack could not fashion chances to score even one goal and give Bayern a fight. But the permanent signing of Argentinian striker Mauro Icardi for 50 million euros, could prove to be a shrewd acquisition. Having spent his first season on loan with the French champions, he can look forward to the future to establish a partnership with Neymar and Mbappe to form a potent trio that can take them places.

5) Ruben Dias – Man City

Yet another window, yet another expensive centre-back. And City fans will be hoping this time, Ruben Dias can solve the defensive problems for good. Signed for 68 million euros which involved Otamendi going the other way for 15 million euros, Dias comes with a good reputation. The commanding centre-back who is also a Portuguese international and is tipped to form a strong pairing with Aymeric Laporte. Possibly this year, they can go further in the Champions’ League with this impact signing.

6) Thomas Partey – Arsenal

For a long time, Arsenal lacked a proper competent defensive midfielder. A player who could shoulder the interceptions’ duties and do the dirty work in midfield. But at the same time, recycle possession and help the team surge forward in attack. Arsenal signing Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid is one of the top deals this summer. The Ghanian midfielder is almost like a quarterback who will sweep behind to help defensively. His versatility is just an added bonus for the Gunners.

7) Leroy Sane – Bayern Munich

Touted to be a worldwide sensation in the upcoming years, 23-year-old German winger Leroy Sane now has the world at his feet. Signed from Man City for just about 45 million euros, he is a dangerous asset who only adds his mettle to an already powerful Bayern Munich team. If he can steer fit of injuries, and consistently put in performances on the left flank, then the German champions have got a player that can stay with them for years and prove to be a top buy for them at the price.

8) Achraf Hakimi – Inter Milan

Secured very early on in the transfer window, Achraf Hakimi’s 40 million euros move from Real Madrid came as a surprise to many. With Antonio Conte boosting many areas this summer, Hakimi will prove to be a class act in the right-wing-back position for Inter. Adept in attack as much in defence, the Moroccan full-back is also young at 21 and can provide great agility to a decent Inter backline.

9) Ollie Watkins – Aston Villa

Paying Brentford a fee of 30.8 million euros, Aston Villa sure have high hopes from Ollie Watkins during their charge for Premier League sustenance. Last week’s hat-trick show against Liverpool in a 7-2 demolition, only served to prove why he is an upcoming talent and one of the future stars in football. Villa have cried out for a proper out-and-out striker to combine with the likes of Grealish, McGinn and Barkley. Watkins for now though is showing all the ability to be that attacking force.

10) Sergio Reguilon – Tottenham Hotspur

Jose Mourinho understood early on in his tenure, that the Spurs backline needed extra impetus from the full-backs. With Ben Davies struggling for fitness time and again, former Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon has entered the scene. Only aged 23, the full-back had an excellent campaign with Sevilla last season. Intel Alder Lake-S CPU is its new take at desktop and server-grade CPUs

0

Intel’s latest 10nm processors namely the Tiger Lake have taken the Notebook community by storm. With its Tiger Lake, the silicon manufacturing giant introduced its next-gen Intel Iris Xe iGPU. But one thing which intel seems to lack behind is in provide 10nm desktop-grade and server-grade CPUs. It looks as if intel will be behind its competitors for quite some time.

Bu this disappointment has forced Intel to manufacture designs that can make full use of the 10nm node. Its new architecture utilizing both the big and small cores could help intel to get back in the game.

Intel also intends on implementing its new architecture in desktop-grade CPUs which is codenamed as Alder Lake-S releasing in seconds half of 2021.

Sources claim that the new architecture has an ID reading “Genuine Intel 0000 @1.40 GHz (16C 32T)”. this means that the new chip will have up to 16 cores and 32 threads. It is also reported that in Alder Lake-S only 8 Golden Cove big cores are getting hyperthreading and 8 Gracemont small cores do not support the feature.

As noted in our previous article, Alder Lake-S will support DDR4 as well as DDR5 RAM, so the performance of the DDR5 module will be more than the DDR4 variant.

The new Alder Lake – S from Intel is expected to feature PCIe gen 5.0 but sources claim that since the PCIe 5.0 is not yet featured commercially, so the performance of this new feature is still unknown. The Alder Lake – S is confirmed to have 10x 1.25 MB L2 cache memory and also 30 MB L3 cache memory.

With NVIDIA acquiring ARM and planning to release its new Data Processing Unit, trouble might be increasing for Intel as a new competitor has entered the competition. The release of Intel’s new architecture will certainly keep the silicon manufacturer running in the competition. But to stand out, Intel needs to create server-grade and desktop-grade CPUs with 10nm process.

Supreme court to run Google vs Oracle for one last lap

Once upon a time, when Android was new to the mobile platform market, it decided to make its platform completely compatible with the then most popular programming language called Java. At the same time, iOS was leading in the mobile market while using Objective-C as its language of choice to write iOS apps.

Things have long been changed since then; now, Android is a leader among mobile operating systems with more than half of the world’s smartphones and smart devices running of OS based on Android. It has long surpassed iOS to become the top preferred mobile OS running on more than 80% of smartphones.

A few years ago, Oracle sued Google over the code that the company used in the Android platform. After many trials and having billions of dollars at stake, the two tech giants will finally receive their final verdict from the supreme court.

But what made Oracle file a lawsuit against the Android Maker?

At the time when Google was trying to make an android platform more competitive against apple’s iOS. It decided to make the platform interoperable with Java programming language. The company decided to re-implement several Java APIs, which included 37 APIs about which oracle filed its lawsuit against Google.

If Oracle wins the lawsuit, it would be entitled to a piece of the android platform due to the implementation of this 37 API.

Google vs Oracle lawsuit has seen three trials and two appeals to date. Millions of dollars have been spent on seasonal litigators, expert witnesses, and useless attempts in making the non-technical juries understand what programming is.

The 37 Java APIs in question, make up about 11,500 lines of code, in some 12 to 14 billion lines of code in Android OS.

The problem for Google is that the 37 APIs in question include basic packages for functions like math or representing dates and times. They contain the most basic of java packages like java.lang.* and java.util.*, which is necessary for any class to run successfully on JVM.

All this may be coming to a climactic close today morning UTC. Using a teleconference, the US Supreme Court will carry an oral argument in the middle of the pandemic.

The most expensive XI of the summer transfer window in 2020

The 2020 summer transfer window closed on 5th October. There have been numerous transfers despite the pandemic threatening to affect the market.

Although there have been some economic effects, it haven’t stopped most of the clubs from signing their targeted players to make their teams better.

Now, we’re going to take a look at the the most expensive XI of this transfer window in 2020. We will be taking into consideration the 4-3-3 formation, which is the most used formation nowadays.

GK – Edouard Mendy

Previous club: Rennes (Ligue 1)
New club: Chelsea (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €24m
Nationality: Senegal
Age: 28 years

The most expensive goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga hasn’t proved his worth at Chelsea. He had been making continuous errors during his playing time at Stamford Bridge. Frank Lampard is rebuilding the Chelsea team, so he has made sure that the goalkeeping position is in the safe hands of Mendy, who has impressed in his Rennes days.

RB – Achraf Hakimi

Previous club: Real Madrid (LaLiga) [was on loan at Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga)]
New club: Inter (Serie A)
Transfer fee: €40m
Nationality: Morocco
Age: 21 years

The Real Madrid academy player has impressed the whole footballing world during his Borussia Dortmund days. After two seasons on loan, he returned to Real Madrid but Zidane prefers Carvajal over him as his first-choice right-back. So, Conte has signed Hakimi at Inter, where the Moroccan can form a formidable partnership as a right-wing-back in a three-man defence.

CB – Ruben Dias

Previous club: Benfica (Liga NOS)
New club: Manchester City (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €68m
Nationality: Portugal
Age: 23 years

Pep Guardiola desperately needed a centre-back who could form a partnership with Laporte. City were first linked with Napoli’s Koulibaly but during the last stage of the transfer window, they secured the former Benfica man to provide the much-needed solidity to City’s defence.

CB – Nathan Ake

Previous club: Bournemouth (Premier League, now relegated to Championship)
New club: Manchester City (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €45m
Nationality: Netherlands
Age: 25 years

Another Manchester City defender makes this list. After losing out to Liverpool in the Premier League last season, Guardiola wanted to strengthen the weakest link of the team, the centre-back position. Ake had a good last season despite Bournemouth being relegated. He will provide backup to Laporte and Dias and can also be deployed in a three-man defence.

LB – Ben Chilwell

Previous club: Leicester City (Premier League)
New club: Chelsea (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €50m
Nationality: England
Age: 23 years

Frank Lampard has heavily invested in the rebuilding of the squad this season. He didn’t trust Alonso and Palmeiri, so he went for Chilwell who is arguably one of the best left-backs in the Premier League for the last few seasons. After joining Chelsea, Chilwell has already started providing, what he has been signed for. He scored a goal and assisted another in his Chelsea debut.

CM – Kai Havertz

Previous club: Bayer Leverkusen (Bundesliga)
New club: Chelsea (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €80m
Nationality: Germany
Age: 21 years

Havertz is the most expensive signing of this summer. Chelsea broke their bank for the German youngster. Lampard signed him to give him the role of creating chances from the midfield. He has already started proving his worth as he has scored a hattrick in Chelsea colours. He is the one for the future.

CM – Miralem Pjanic

Previous club: Juventus (Serie A)
New club: Barcelona (LaLiga)
Transfer fee: €60m
Nationality: Bosnia and Herzegovina
Age: 30 years

This has been one of the strangest transfers of this summer. Barcelona opted to swap Pjanic for their 24-year-old midfielder Arthur for just an extra €12m. This move created a huge controversy among the fans. Pjanic hasn’t started featuring regularly for the Catalans so it is hard to tell now whether this transfer will be a hit or miss. Pjanic prefers to play as a deep-lying midfielder but Barcelona already has De Jong and Busquets ahead of him in the pecking order. It would be interesting to see how Koeman uses the former Juventus midfielder.

CM – Arthur Melo

Previous club: Barcelona (LaLiga)
New club: Juventus (Serie A)
Transfer fee: €72m
Nationality: Brazil
Age: 24 years

The swap deal between Barcelona and Juventus resulted in Arthur going to the Serie A side. This seems to be a win-win situation for the Turin side as they only had to pay a meagre €12m, along with Pjanic, for someone who is expected to control the midfield for the Old Lady in years to come. Arthur hasn’t featured for Juventus yet but once he finds his feet he can be one of the best midfielders in Serie A.

RW – Timo Werner

Previous club: RB Leipzig (Bundesliga)
New club: Chelsea (Premier League)
Transfer fee: €53m
Nationality: Germany
Age: 24 years

Timo Werner is the No 9 of the Germany national team. He carried RB Leipzig to the quarter finals of the Champions League last season but due to his contract with Chelsea he didn’t take part in the Final Eight and Leipzig failed in the semi-finals. The German forward is lethal in attack and prefers playing as a striker but Lampard has tried to play him along with Abraham in a more wider role so that he gets the freedom to create space and score goals. He has scored in the EFL cup but is yet to open his account in the Premier League. Once he gets going he will be one of the top contenders for the Golden Boot.

ST – Victor Osimhen

Previous club: Lille (Ligue 1)
New club: Napoli (Serie A)
Transfer fee: €70m
Nationality: Nigeria
Age: 21 years

The Nigerian forward set up the Ligue 1 on fire last season with his pace and goalscoring form. Napoli have invested a lot of money for him and see him as the one carrying the mantle of the team forward.

LW – Leroy Sane

Previous club: Manchester City (Premier League)
New club: Bayern Munich (Bundesliga)
Transfer fee: €45m
Nationality: Germany
Age: 24 years

The former Manchester City winger was injured for the whole duration of last season. He wanted a move to his homeland, and Bayern Munich has signed him to replace Ribery in the left flank. The German has blistering pace and when fit can take on any defender. Bayern has a left-winger for years to come, and he has already scored 1 goal and provided 2 assists in 2 league matches.

PSV sign Mario Gotze on a free transfer

0

While the transfer window might have shut down on Monday, there is still room for clubs to sign new players in the form of free agents, who currently don’t play for any club.

Due to the reason stated above, Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven have managed to sign former Dortmund and Bayern star Mario Gotze on a free transfer. The World Cup winner has signed a two-year deal with the club.

The German attacking midfielder will wear the number 27 as he begins his career in the Netherlands at 28 years of age. While the player is still technically in the peak years of his career as a footballer, his performances at the pitch have not been phenomenal consistently.

In fact, the German never managed to build up on his historic goal in the 2014 World Cup Final against Argentina to lead his country to the most valuable prize in the game.

Since then, Gotze has played for both teams that compete in Der Klassiker and has had his tenure at both clubs plagued by injuries that hindered his progress.

His contract with Dortmund was not renewed due to his extremely high wage demands.

While there is no quoted number on how much PSV are offering Gotze, there is no way the Dutch club can offer him €10 million a year. That is something even a European giant like Dortmund could not give him.

Though he wasn’t able to make a splash in club football, Gotze is still a talented player. And if he manages to stay fit, he could easily become a star in the Dutch league.

PSV are one of the biggest clubs in the league and are once again in the race to beat Ajax to the Eredivisie title, especially after the league was abandoned last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
