AMD has recently launched the world’s fastest GPU for HPC and servers – the AMD Instinct™ MI100 accelerator – the world’s fastest HPC GPU and the first x86 server GPU to surpass the 10 teraflops (FP64) performance barrier.

It is built on the new AMD’s new CDNA architecture, the AMD Instinct MI100 GPU enables a new class of accelerated systems for HPC and AI when paired with 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors.

Nokia 2.4 will arrive in India on 26th November

In a previous article, we have claimed that HMD Global is expected to launch Nokia 2.4 in the Indian market by the end of November. Now to prove that acclamation true the Nokia 2.4 will arrive in Indian marker on 26th November, and HMD Global has teased this news through its social media channels.

A 14-sec video has been posted by the Nokia Mobile tweeter account, which reveals the launch of the Nokia 2.4 handset. Also, we have got key specifications of this upcoming device, let’s check out these features.

Specifications of Nokia 2.4

Regarding the display, this phone features a large 6.5-inch HD+ LCD dew-drop notch panel with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The display also has (720×1,600) pixels of screen resolutions. This phone is available in three different color/shade variants: Charcoal, Dusk, and Fjord. The rear panel is made of polycarbonate.

The Nokia 2.4 runs on the Android 10 OS and is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 chipset. The SoC of this phone is paired with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 32GB/64GB of internal storage (the storage is further expandable via an external microSD card).  The users can expand the internal capacity through a MicroSD card. This upcoming device is fueled up by a 4,500mAH battery (charges via MicroUSB port).

Coming to the camera part, the Nokia 2.4 offers a dual rear camera setup which includes a 13MP (wide) primary sensor with an f/2.2 lens and a 2MP depth sensor, supported by a LED flash. For the selfies, this phone has a 5MP selfie snapper with an f/2.4 lens at the front. This phone has a rear-mounted physical fingerprint scanner just below the rear camera module.

The phone will have dual-SIM (Nano) slot, which will be supported by a 4G network. Other connectivity options include- a 3.5mm headphone jack, single-band WiFi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, dedicated Google Assistant key, and many more.

Regarding the pricing and availability, there is no official confirmation regarding the price in India, but it is likely to be in line with its European pricing that starts at EUR 119(Roughly Rs. 10,500). The phone will be launched on 26th November in India.

In yet another software news, the Redmond-based giant has introduced a new feature to its Teams app. The ability to integrate workplace apps like Asana has been finally launched on its platform. The software was only limited to chats and channel communications, but it can now be integrated with 20 new apps in the user’s meetings.

The Power Platform currently in development by Microsoft will offer low-code tools to build and deploy apps, chatbots, and workflows. It is a maker studio where users can manage app data and connections for teams and build and modify the interfaces of the apps.

Microsoft’s new Power Automate app for Teams offers several workflow designs and templates that help users automate routine tasks. The company is also offering the Power Virtual Agents app that will allow users to build, deploy, and manage low-code chat-bots.

The windows maker is also making its Dataverse for Teams. The Dataverse is a low-code data platform available to help admins control the data used to build apps and other processes in Teams.

AMD and Microsoft Azure power HPC in the Cloud

Microsoft has been a great partner of AMD, and it is evident when it used AMD’s EPYC CPUs on its Azure cloud infrastructure and provided virtual machines to a wide range of customers. Each year, AMD is progressing by a huge leap in performance, and before launching the Zen 3, AMD showed its strong HPC partnership during their MI100 GPU launch.

Azure is using 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors to power its HBv2 virtual machines (VMs) for HPC workloads. These VMs offer up to 2x the performance of first-generation HB-series virtual machines, support up to 80,000 cores for MPI jobs, and take advantage of 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors up to 45% more memory bandwidth than comparable x86 alternatives.

HBv2 VMs are used by numerous customers including The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s Beckman Institute for Advanced Science & Technology which used 86,400 cores to model a plant virus that previously required a leadership class supercomputer and the U.S. Navy which rapidly deploys and scales enhanced weather and ocean pattern predictions on demand. HBv2 powered by 2nd Gen AMD EPYC processors also provides the bulk of the CPU compute power for the OpenAI environment Microsoft announced earlier this year.

AMD EPYC processors have also helped HBv2 reach new cloud HPC milestones, such as a new record for Cloud MPI scaling results with NAMD, Top 20 results on the Graph500, and the first 1 terabyte/sec cloud HPC parallel filesystem. Across these and other application benchmarks, HBv2 delivers 12x higher scaling than found elsewhere on the public cloud.

Qualcomm may soon continue its trade with Huawei

We already know about the trade dispute going on between the US and Chinese administrations. With the US imposing various bans and limitations on Chinese brands, the company suffers most from its has been Huawei. It was steadily developing its 5G technology; however, due to the trade ban, its development of the next-gen network has been halted.

Recently, though, many companies have applied for a license from the US government to allow them to continue their business with Huawei. And most of them have gotten permission as well.

According to sources, Qualcomm, which had applied for a business license last month, may have already granted permission to trade with Huawei. Sources claim that the US government has granted the chipmaker a license to supply Huawei with SoCs. But only the chips that contain 4G modems, it is still not allowed to sell the company 5G technology.

The chipmaker will supply the Chinese tech giant with the Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 732G. Along with Snapdragon 855 and Snapdragon 855 Plus. However, reports claim that Qualcomm may soon acquire a US administration license to supply 5G technology to Huawei.

There are hints that the company may get more than one license from the administration across the pacific. There are no official statements about what the other pending license applications are, but, surely, Huawei is coming back into the business. Slowly but surely.

SC East Bengal apply for AFC Club Licensing exemption

The two Kolkata giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan are going to make their ISL debut this season. Mohun Bagan has merged with 3 times ISL winner ATK and will be known as ATK Mohun Bagan FC. Meanwhile, East Bengal has managed to retain their own identity as they brought on a new investor, Shree Cement and will be known as Sporting Club East Bengal.

All the Indian football clubs have been attempting to meet a set of required criteria, popularly known as the AFC club licensing criteria, in order to take part in official tournaments since 2013. The clubs have to meet five different criteria which include Sporting, Infrastructure, Personnel and Administrative, Legal and Financial.

ATK Mohun Bagan FC along with FC Goa, Bengaluru FC, Jamshedpur FC, Chennaiyin FC and Mumbai City FC have been successfully granted the AFC Club License for the 2020-21 season.

On the other hand, ATKMB’s city rivals, SC East Bengal has failed to meet the required criteria. They have been denied the AFC club license. Odisha FC and Kerala Blasters are the other two teams alongside East Bengal who have faltered the club license.

The clubs who have failed to meet the AFC club licensing criteria will now have to request an exemption from AFC and pay subsequent fines. But there’s a silver lining as AFC can grant exceptions this season due to the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic.

So now SC East Bengal have applied for AFC Club License exemption.

A club official told PTI on conditions of anonymity: “We have requested for an exemption to participate in the National Competition from the Club Licensing committee,”

“We were not able to comply with documents pertaining to the 2019-2020 season for different criteria but have submitted all documents which were in our control. We are hopeful that the committee will take the best decision for the club.”

AFC can make exceptions only on one condition that all clubs who have failed the licensing procedure will have to assure that they will meet all criteria next season. This is the only way they will be allowed to take part in this year’s competitions.

ATK Mohun Bagan FC will lock horns with SC East Bengal on 27th November, which promises to be one of the most exciting matches of this season’s ISL.

Numbers that prove Zouma has been Chelsea’s unsung hero this season

In stark contrast to the 19/20 season, Frank Lampard has managed to breathe new life into the Chelsea defence. The extent of their baptism makes them one of the best defensive sides in the Premiership so far. 

The Blues have conceded 10 goals in 8 matches so far, and of the ten, Edouard Mendy has let in only one. His record clean sheet streak was broken in Chelsea’s 4-1 victory over Sheffield United in their most recent outing. 

While Mendy deserves credit for being strong between the sticks, Kurt Zouma has been in amazing form since the beginning of the 20/21 season. His recent run of form has cemented his position as one of Frank Lampard’s first-choice centre backs, alongside veteran Thiago Silva. 

To the credit of the Frenchman, Zouma’s brilliance so far this season is backed up by the numbers. The centre back has won an amazing 96.3% of all aerial duels contested, which is the best in all of Europe’s leagues. 

His dominance in the air is further complemented by the fact that Zouma has managed to score 3 goals for the club, with two coming off the defender’s head. 

Zouma closely edges out Atalanta’s Berat Djimsiti, who has managed to win 22 out of 23, in comparison to the former’s 26 successful defensive headers out of 27.

Despite a rather disappointing start to the season considering their status in world football, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire is third in the list for the most successful defensive aerial duels, winning 27 out of 30. 

Chelsea’s newfound solidarity at the back could be key to a successful campaign under Frank Lampard this time out. Considering the money spent in the summer, silverware at least in the form of the FA Cup would be a fair expectation from Lampard’s second season in charge.
