Out of 105 countries playing competitive rugby in the world, one-third are African nations.

BCCI to complete two IPL team sales soon

While the IPL’s 2021 season has yet to end, many people are already looking forward to the 2022 season. After all, the IPL will expand to ten teams next year with the addition of two new clubs. It would be interesting to observe how the addition of new franchises affects the T20 event, which has been an eight-team affair since 2014.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time the IPL has featured more than eight teams. The 2011 edition of the showpiece tournament included ten teams, while the next two seasons featured nine clubs. Many famous bodies and business tycoons would be eager to secure ownership rights in the new teams if the BCCI decides to extend the league again.

With the upcoming franchise auction approaching, interested parties will need to determine their ideas and tactics as soon as possible. According to reports, the BCCI intends to complete the sale of two franchises before the second leg of the IPL 14, most likely in July, and interested parties have been given some indications as to what the final price would be.

The CEO of a firm, who’s interested in buying one of the two new teams said, “we understand the tender will be floated next month, we have been waiting for this for quite some time. We will not be surprised if 250 million is the base price”.

In addition, the IPL 2022 will feature a mega auction, with teams undergoing total overhauls. As a result, players who want to play in the IPL must perform well in their future T20 assignments. Players will have more opportunity to go under the hammer now that two more franchises have entered the picture.

Meanwhile, the IPL 2021 tournament, which was supposed to take place in April-May, was cancelled on May 4 due to the widespread COVID-19 virus. The season will continue on September 19 in the United Arab Emirates, with the remaining matches taking place there. The competition, however, will be followed by the ICC T20 World Cup, therefore many foreign players may opt out of the remaining matches.

Facebook is now a $1 trillion company

Facebook is now part of the elite ranks of companies that are valued at over a trillion dollars. As of today’s closing market, Facebook has a market cap of $1.008 trillion as reported by Yahoo Finance. Facebook has crossed the mark for the first time in the company’s history.

Facebook’s most notable divisions are the Facebook site, Messenger, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Oculus. Facebook is the only $1 trillion valued US tech company founded in the 2000s in the list of companies who have achieved the same. This makes it the newest or the youngest member of the elite ranks.

Facebook shares gained 4.2% in Monday’s rally. A big reason for this was the dismissal of the FTC’s case against them. The federal judge on the case opted to dismiss the antitrust case that the Federal Trade Commission had brought against Facebook. Here, the dismissal’s main reason was the FTC’s inability to provide enough evidence to back up the argument against the social-media giant.

FTC’s case was to unwind Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram and WhatsApp. They accused Facebook to be creating social networking monopoly. Upon dismissal, the federal judge has given the FTC 30 days to file an amended version of the suit.

Well if they do file an amended suit or not, is up to the FTC. But Facebook sure gained largely from this suit. The company has also been reportedly working on a Smartwatch to reenter the consumer products market. The future of Facebook surely seems bright!

Is this the Star of Euros: Cristiano Ronaldo’s last dance?

Ronaldo is yet again having a remarkable summer. On one hand, he is now the greatest striker in the history of Euros and on the other he also equalled Ali Daei’s all-time highest goal tally in men’s international football. But these personal achievements could not carry his nation to the quarter-finals this year. He scored five goals (current highest) this season but his team ended losing to Belgium in the Round of 16.

1 16 Is this the Star of Euros: Cristiano Ronaldo's last dance?
Is this the Star of Euros: Cristiano Ronaldo’s last dance?

Ronaldo was seen utterly frustrated when the final whistle was blown. This might be the Portuguese great’s final ever appearance at a major international tournament. Ronaldo was so emotional that he decided to throw his captain’s armband onto the turf not once but twice. It seemed like a flashback to his frustration after the ‘ghost goal’ against Serbia.

Ronaldo has proven again and again that age is just a number for him. At 36, he continues to haunt the opposition’s defences with his mercurial talent. He is smashing records and making new ones at his age. His tally of 14 goals has come across 5 Euro editions. Ronaldo also overtook Gianluigi Buffon on Wednesday night as the most appearances in Euros history (59). Let’s have a look at his other records at the European Championship.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Euros Records:
  • 59 – Most appearances, including qualifying
  • 24 – Most finals appearances
  • 45 – Most goals, including qualifying
  • 14 – Most finals goals
  • 12 – Most victories at finals
  • 5 – Most Euro final tournaments played in
  • 5 – Most Euro final tournaments scored in
2 17 Is this the Star of Euros: Cristiano Ronaldo's last dance?
Is this the Star of Euros: Cristiano Ronaldo’s last dance?

Netting 5 goals at Euro 2020 in his 4 games, Ronaldo is also in the race for another Golden Boot. Although many players have a 4-goal tally and have got more matches to play. His 14 goals record in Euros actually fades in comparison to his 109 for Portugal. His service to his nation has been incomparable. Just one more goal at the tournament could have made him the greatest international goalscorer in history. We really hope he stays to get it done.

Whatever one says about Portugal’s performances, they were constantly competing at the greatest levels being in the Group of Death with Germany and France. Ronaldo’s work rate was noteworthy as he never gave anything less than his 200%. If this is how the curtain falls on Ronaldo’s Euros career, he left as its greatest ever player.

India can get 5G Network soon, says Report

Even though 5G trials have started in India, it is expected that the commercial launch will take place in August 2022. 5G network trials have kicked off in India. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have begun testing their 5G networks in Mumbai and Gurgaon, respectively. Other companies like Vodafone-Idea and state-owned MTNL are expected to begin testing the next-generation network very soon. That being said, there is no word on the spectrum auctions.

Reports in the past suggested that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has pushed the spectrum auctions to next year. While we wait for an official word on the same, a new report claims that the faster cellular network will roll out commercially next year.

Indians are expected to get 5G network connectivity next year. According to a new report, PM Narendra Modi could launch 5G network on India’s 75th Independence Day. The BusinessLine report, citing a government official, said that the 5G network would start around August next year and PM Modi could launch it on August 15.

He said companies such as Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung and Qualcomm are already making hardware in India, and many other international companies will work together for the success of 5G in India.

“The major surprise of the launch will be that you will find a lot of Indian technology – be it in hardware or software – in it. As you are aware, India is very strong in software, so many technologies will be dependent on our local software companies. They will be the backbone, the official further added.

Reliance Jio has developed its own gear to conduct trails. Airtel, on the other hand, tested the network in Gurgaon’s Cyber Hub using Ericsson’s network gear. The Sunil Mittal-led company recently said that it will pilot and deploy Tata’s OpenRAN tech as part of its 5G rollout plans in India.

Telcos have been allotted 5G trial spectrums in the 700 MHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands. Both Airtel and Jio have previously stated that their networks are 5G ready and awaiting for adequate spectrum from the DoT. The BusinessLine report states that the DoT could conduct 5G auctions later this year.
