The first Graphics driver for Intel’s Rocket Lake CPU is finally here

Intel has finally released the first official graphics drivers for its Rocket Lake CPUs, which features its Iris Xe integrated graphics unit. The company earlier launched its CPUs, but the cards came without the graphics drivers, and it took a while, but we now have the first official graphics drivers.

The driver, which is the 27.20.100.9316, is 426 MB in size, but the more interesting part is that the date it is listed for is 3rd March 2021. It suggests that the company added support for the Rocket Lake CPUs on its existing driver suite, considering that all Iris Xe chips are essentially based on the same Xe-LP GPU architecture.

How Facebook login details of 533 million users reemerge online?

0

The personal data of approximately 533 million Facebook users reemerged online for free on Saturday, including personal information such as full names, phone numbers, Facebook IDs, locations, bios, birth dates, and in some cases, email addresses, according to a Business Insider report. This is a reminder of the company’s ability to collect mountains of information and its struggles in protecting these sensitive assets.

“This is old data that was previously reported on in 2019,” a Facebook spokesperson wrote in an email statement, according to Bloomberg. “We found and fixed this issue in August 2019.”

At the time, the Mark Zuckerberg-led company addressed a flaw in its technology that allowed the information to leak out. However, once such data escape from Facebook’s network and floats into the wide array of the internet, the company has limited power to stop it from spreading online.

Alon Gal, Chief Technology Officer at Hudson Rock, a cybercrime intelligence firm, discovered the data again on Saturday.

Databases, especially if they are large or rare, aren’t often shared widely right away because “the people who hold it will attempt to monetize it for as long as they can,” Gal said in a message on Twitter. “The process sometimes takes years, sometimes days, but eventually all private databases leak if they were sold around.”

Data leaks such as these threaten to undermine Facebook’s business model that involves gathering a large amount of personal data and using that to sell targeted ads.

The information is widely accessible to anyone with rudimentary data skills as it is available for free on a hacking forum, Business Insider said. The publication verified a number of records by pairing known Facebook users’ phone numbers with the IDs listed. Other records were also confirmed by testing email addresses from the data set in Facebook’s password reset feature, which can be used to partially reveal a user’s phone number.

Chinese government seized a cargo-carrying 300 MP 30HX GPUs

With the world currently facing the semiconductor crisis, graphics card manufacturer Nvidia has decided to increase its supply to make up for the vacuum in the market. Though it may sound good news for gamers, however, it’s a fact that the heavy-working GPUs are mostly purchased and exploited by hungry crypto-miners. As such, even if the supply is increased, the cards will hardly reach gamers’ hands.

The green team came up with a solution and announced its CMP line of graphics cards dedicated to cryptocurrency mining. And the cards have started to roll out since the first quarter of 2021. To get their hands on the crypto-mining cards, every user has to place an order for them. They are not sold through the retail market.

But, even though the order is made, genuinely, there always will be trouble waiting. According to fresh sources, a batch of 300 CMP 30HX graphics cards headed to mining farms in China has been seized by Hong Kong Customs authorities.

The reports suggest that Hong Kong Customs Authorities has seized a total of 300 NVIDIA CMP 30HX graphics cards, labelling them as smuggled units. The cards were reportedly headed to Chinese mining farms.

It is worth reporting that China still has a ban implemented in several provinces against Cryptocurrency mining operations. So, we can only think of that being the case with what just happened. However, it still doesn’t provide any concrete logical reasoning for why the shipment was termed as smuggled units.

The release of the CMP or Crypto Mining Processor lineup is an attempt from Nvidia to stabilise the availability of graphics cards in the market for its gamers while providing the miners with cards designed specifically for them.

Android 12 has a hidden API for search operations using third-party launchers

Google released the Android 12 Developer Preview 2 almost a month ago, and we saw what could be some new features of the upcoming OS version of Google’s Android. There were many new features, including a new search widget that was for Pixel Launcher, which would let the users search for apps and contacts, settings, and more on their device.

However, according to recent sources, some additional information is hidden in the Android 12 preview documentation. According to the documentation, Google is adding a new device search API in Android 12.

The new API will allow third-party launchers to have a universal search feature. As per the developers’ tweet behind the Niagara launcher, this feature will give third-party launchers “Access to the centralized AppSearch index maintained by the system.”

The documentation talks about how the AppSearch index is a search library used to maintain structured data that features the following.

  • A fully offline on-device solution
  • A set of APIs for applications to index documents and retrieve them via full-text search
  • APIs for applications to allow the System to display their content on the system UI surfaces
  • Similarly, APIs for applications allow the System to share its content with other specified applications.

According to sources, the new feature will allow the users to stop using any third-party apps to do a search query. Users will be able to search almost anything on their device from the search bar. However, Google has not officially provided or unveiled any worthwhile information about this new feature, but we expect more information to unfold in the upcoming Android 12 Developer preview.

AMD continues to snatch CPU share from Intel as per latest Steam’s Hardware survey

0

The Red team is on a spree of gaining chunks of CPU share each month in Steam’s Hardware survey. It’s been evident that Intel isn’t enjoying much in its CPU market share, and their desktop processors are not competitive to AMD’s anymore; even their new flagship Core i9-11900K received a huge backslash by a lot of reviewers.

AMD’s performance and efficiency are driving more customers each month, and this increasing its fan base. Until now, AMD’s biggest struggle was in gaming, but with Zen 3, things have completely changed and having reviewed the likes of Ryzen 5 5600X, Ryzen 7 5800X and Ryzen 9 5950X, I can honestly say they are the best in the market right now!

Last month too AMD had a positive overall gain of 0.67% share taking the share to 28.66% total share for AMD and 71.34% for Intel. However, AMD his month has gained less and now the total share stands at 28.84% for AMD and 71.16% for Intel.

AMD continues to snatch CPU share from Intel as per latest Steam's Hardware survey

This is mainly due to the fact that although AMD gained 0.46% share for Windows users but lost 0.19% share in terms of Linux users to Intel, quite strange in fact.

However, AMD’s main problem is with the stocks and the high demand it faces from gamers worldwide. Although Ryzen 3000 series are still less affected, the Ryzen 5000 series are in extreme demand, and as new CPUs haven’t been announced yet from AMD and Intel on the budget side, people are buying old discounted CPUs.

TiMi Studios, developer of Call Of Duty: Mobile earns $10 billion in 2020: Reports

TiMi Studios, the Chinese tech giant Tencent-owned developer of popular mobile game hits Call of Duty: Mobile and the MOBA Honor of Kings, generated a staggering $10 billion in revenue in 2020, according to a Reuters report.

Reuters’ article says those earnings make TiMi the “world’s largest developer, which many industry watchers had suspected to be the case” according to its sources. While it has not been cleared out exactly what metric that is defining, it’s undoubtedly a huge number. For comparison, in 2020, Activision Blizzard (which publishes the Call of Duty franchise) earned revenues of $8.09 billion, nearly $2 billion less than TiMi’s reported $10 billion.

TIMI’S GAMES RACK UP SOME BIG NUMBERS

While TiMi might not be a household name worldwide, its games rack up some big numbers to show how good they are. In October 2019, when Call of Duty: Mobile released, it had the biggest mobile game launch ever, racking up over 100 million downloads worldwide in its first week of availability. And Honor of Kings, whose availability is only limited to China, had an astounding 100 million daily active users as of November 2020, according to Tencent.

It doesn’t seem like Tencent and TiMi will stop here. TiMi is recruiting for a new AAA game that “resembles the virtual community from the movie Ready Player One,” Reuters reports, which seems to suggest that, in the vein of Fortnite and Roblox, TiMi wants to make its own metaverse-like game. Tencent is also building a TiMi studio in Los Angeles and also one for Lightspeed and Quantum (which develops PUBG: Mobile), according to Reuters.

Tencent has long-standing investments in some US-based gaming companies including a majority stake in Riot Games in 2011 and then full ownership four years later. And, in 2012, Tencent purchased 40 percent of Epic Games that has grown in value significantly following the huge success of Epic’s Fortnite.

GM’s New Electric Hummer can Drive Diagonally, with 300 Miles of Range

Hummer’s electric pickup truck will now be available in an Electric Vehicle (EV) version, which will have a range of up to 300 miles and will sell for a suggested retail price of up to $110,595 for its first edition. Reservations for that model are already full, according to General Motors’ (GM) website.

GMC brand, which is under GM, is producing electric Hummers. GM said the SUV will go into production starting early 2023, with lower-end variants starting at $90,000 and $80,000 starting production in the spring of 2023 and the spring of 2024, respectively.

The SUV’s $90K-and-up trim levels come with Crab Walk, which like the original pickup can let the Hummer rotate all four wheels to drive diagonally at low speeds. Extract Mode will also be available, which can use the air suspension system to lift the entire vehicle six inches off the ground to get over large obstacles. It’s also got the same touchscreen center console display of 13.4-inch and digital instrument cluster of 12.3-inch.

In 2010, the boxy behemoth Hummer had become a symbol for pre-financial-crisis excess that was made famous by its presence in television shows like The Sopranos and Entourage and in rap music videos. But once the global recession hit, followed by a rise in fuel prices, Hummer sales dropped and the vehicle was discontinued.

GM’s $27 billion push into EVs includes the release of 30 new vehicles by 2025 with the Hummer being a cornerstone.

GM’s new modular electric battery platform, Ultium, will power both the Hummers, the cars will be the first using this tech, which the company says will deliver power ranging from 50 to 200 kWh, allowing for a driving range up to “400 miles or more.” For trucks, according to The Verge, “the Ultium platform will include 800-volt battery packs and 350 kW fast-charging capability, equivalent to a 100-mile charge in 10 minutes.”  While for the SUV, “fast charging is limited to 300 kW, and with 170 fewer horsepower at top-spec, you’re also looking at 3.5 seconds to go from 0-60, rather than a flat 3.0 seconds.”

The second-gen version of GM’s advanced driver assists system, Super Cruise, will also be featured in the vehicles, which allows for “hands-free” highway driving.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 becomes Steam’s fastest-growing GPU

0

Nvidia launched its affordable yet powerful GeForce RTX 3070 back in September 2020; however, getting it in your hands has been the most difficult job ever. But it seems availability isn’t stopping the GPU’s fame as in Steam’s latest Hardware Survey report, the new RTX 3070 is deemed to be the fastest-growing GPU.

As per the latest report, the RTX 3070 managed to grab the 17th-most popular graphics card position in the Top 20 list with a 1.29% share overall, and it’s increasing at a steady rate. The $499 GPU is a highly acclaimed affordable monster that, paired with NVIDIA benefits, is a perfect choice if you can get it at the right price.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 becomes Steam’s fastest-growing GPU

NVIDIA is ruling the GPU chart as its new RTX 30-series GPUs quickly make their place in the top 100. Both the GeForce RTX 3080 and RTX 3060 Ti has gained a healthy share, including 0.87% and 0.39%, respectively, whereas the flagship RTX 3090 holds a respectable 0.34% of the market.

This kind of share shows even though there’s a shortage of GPUs, in around 6 months of sale, NVIDIA has made a total of 2.89% Ampere cards in the Steam chart. If the demand, the supply shortages and scalpers won’t exist, a lot of gamers could enjoy these cards, although a lot of cards used for mining might never be made their way into Steam’s chart.

The worst part of this entire Steam Hardware survey is that there’s no sign of AMD’s new RX 6000 series GPUs, not a single one in the top 100, showing the company’s poor availability.
