Aymeric Laporte to make SPAIN national team debut?

0

Aymeric Laporte is one of the best players not to have made his international debut yet. But that could change in shocking fashion this summer, as Spanish national team coach Luis Enrique has asked for Laporte to be called up to the squad for Euro 2020.

The player was born in France but has been categorically ruled out of Didier Deschamps’ plans for the French national team. Having moved to Bilbao as a teenager, Laporte has Spanish citizenship after spending 8 years in the country.

Despite that, Laporte represented France on various youth levels, having done so for France U21 last. He has been scouted by Spain since 2016, and could finally make his national team debut at the ripe age of 26.

The RFEF is yet to hear an official declaration, but that is expected to be a mere formality for the player. As reported by Marca, there are no problems to the move and it could be confirmed as soon as the upcoming few days.

Laporte moved to Manchester City in January 2018 for €65 million and has won the Premier League title thrice since then. He was responsible for City winning the 2021 EFL Cup, scoring the only goal of the game as City lifted the trophy for the fourth time.

The Manchester City centre-back will, in all possibility, be joining Sergio Ramos, Eric Garcia, Pau Torres and Inigo Martinez as the centre-back options for Spain in Euro 2020 this summer. The squad list is expected to be officially released in seven days.

Manchester City crowned as Premier League champions as Manchester United lose to Leicester City

Manchester United were beaten by Leicester City at Old Trafford tonight by a 1-2 scoreline, which assured Manchester City is this season’s Premier League champion.

Manchester United has to play 3 matches in just 5 days which forced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to trust on his reserve bench for the tie against Leicester City. Ole has made 10 changes in the team from the weekend’s winning team against Aston Villa. Only Mason Greenwood kept his place into the squad from that day tonight.

Leicester City started the game with domination and took the lead within 10 minutes from an excellent volley from Luke Thomas, who scored his debut Premier League goal today. But Manchester United responded quickly as Mason Greenwood netted on the 15th minute. The first half ended in a 1-1 scoreline.

In the second half, Leicester City got the better of the home team. Leicester City defender Caglar Soyuncu headed one into the net to take the lead over the Red Devils. Manchester United tried to get back into the game but failed to find the net.

As a result, United remains at 70 points with 3 matches to go this season, whereas Manchester City already secured 80 points and became the season champion. This is Pep Guardiola’s 3rd Premier League title since his joining at Manchester City.

Gigi Buffon set to leave Juventus, not looking at retirement yet

0

Gigi Buffon has announced that he will not be extending his contract with Juventus and that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. However, the 43-year-old has refrained from commenting on the possibility of retiring.

The Italian spoke to Bein Sports about his decision to part ways with Juventus a second time:

“My future is clear and defined. This beautiful and very long experience with Juve will come to a definitive end this year.

“Either I stop playing, or if I find a situation that motivates me to play or have a different life experience, I will take it into consideration.

“I feel I gave everything for Juve. We have reached the end of a cycle.”

The titan has made 12 appearances for Juventus this season and reportedly has Dynamo Kyiv interested in his services. At one point, Buffon was the most expensive goalkeeper in the world has completed a transfer from Parma in 2001 for €52.88 million.

Of all the domestic trophies that the goalkeeper has won during his time with the club, the Champions League trophy has eluded him time and time again. He has made 683 appearances for Juventus and has kept 322 clean sheets for the Bianconeri.

Buffon first left Juventus in 2018 and joined PSG as a free agent. However, despite making 25 appearances with the Parisians, things didn’t quite work out and he rejoined a year later in 2019.

His departure from Turin seems to have a sense of finality about it this time, and these are surely the last few years in the legendary keeper’s career.

Thomas Muller to be called up to the Germany squad this summer

0

Thomas Muller is set to be recalled to the German national team this summer, as reported by BILD in Germany. Euro 2020 is set to be the spectacle of the summer, and for Germany national team coach Joachim Low, it will be the final tournament in an illustrious career with der Mannschaft.

Calls for Muller to return to the national team rose steeply following his resurgence under Hansi Flick. The German ended last season with the most number of assists in the continent and has continued to impress this season.

Low’s reliance on youth has ruled out the more experienced players of the German national team. But that could change if Muller returns to the Euro 2020 squad. The last time the Bayern Munich forward featured for Germany was in the 2018 Nations League.

Low himself hasn’t commented on the matter yet but is expected to announce the squad list on 19th May. The tournament begins on 11 June, and Germany face World Cup winners France in their first match of the competition on 15th June.

Muller has featured in almost every Bundesliga match for Bayern Munich this season and has racked up 17 assists in the league this season. The 31-year-old has become a prolific creative midfielder, and still retains his ability to finish chances well. That is shown well by his 11 goals in the league along with the assists.

Having been a part of the squad under Low, Muller has a great understanding of his philosophy, and could help the coach to his final piece of silverware in his farewell tournament.
