NVIDIA Hopper H100 GPU broke every record on MLPerf AI Benchmark

In its first appearance on the MLPerf AI Benchmark list, NVIDIA’s Hopper H100 GPU broke every record set by Ampere A100. The Ampere A100 GPUs continue to exhibit leadership performance in the mainstream AI application suite while Jetson AGX Orin leads in edge computing, even as Hopper Tensor Core GPUs pave the path for the next major AI revolution.

Also continuing to exhibit overall leading inference performance across all MLPerf tests: image and audio recognition, natural language processing, and recommender systems, NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPUs and the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin module for AI-powered robotics.

All six of the neural networks in the round’s per-accelerator performance were surpassed by the H100, also known as Hopper. In separate server and offline settings, it showed superior throughput and performance. NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPUs, which continue to lead in overall MLPerf performances, were outperformed by the NVIDIA Hopper architecture by up to 4.5 times.

Hopper performed exceptionally well on the well-liked BERT model for natural language processing, in part because of its Transformer Engine. It is one of the MLPerf AI models that is the largest and demands the most processing power. The H100 GPUs, which will be released later this year, are being publicly shown off for the first time with these inference benchmarks. The H100 GPUs will take part in next training MLPerf rounds.

The most recent testing showed that NVIDIA A100 GPUs, which are now offered by important cloud service providers and system manufacturers, maintained their overall performance advantage in the mainstream category for AI inference.

More tests involving data centres and edge computing scenarios were won by A100 GPUs than by any other submission. The A100 also demonstrated overall leadership in the MLPerf training benchmarks in June, showcasing its capabilities throughout the AI workflow.

NVIDIA Orin ran every MLPerf benchmark for edge computing and outperformed every other low-power system-on-a-chip in terms of test results. And compared to its April launch on MLPerf, it demonstrated an increase in energy efficiency of up to 50%. In the previous round, Orin delivered an average of 2x higher energy efficiency while operating up to 5x quicker than the Jetson AGX Xavier module of an earlier generation.

Orin combines a cluster of powerful Arm CPU cores with an NVIDIA Ampere architecture GPU on a single chip. It supports the whole NVIDIA AI software stack and is now offered in the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin developer kit and production modules for robotics and autonomous systems. These platforms include those for autonomous vehicles (NVIDIA Hyperion), medical devices (Clara Holoscan), and robotics (Isaac).

Redmi 11 Prime features a 6.58-inch full-HD+ (1,080×2,400 pixels) IPS display with up to 90Hz refresh rate and 20.7:9 aspect ratio and 240Hz touch sampling rate. AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs iGPU appears in Benchmark proves faster than 6 7nm Vega Chips

The RDNA 2 iGPU used with AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs has leaked its initial performance benchmarks, which indicate exceptionally good performance. The AMD Ryzen 7000 CPUs’ iGPUs will have two compute units, giving it a total of 128 stream processors. These cores will operate at a graphics frequency of 2200 MHz, which may be the max frequency, and a base clock speed of 400 MHz. This will give somewhat greater performance than the Nintendo Switch, which is listed at 500 GFLOPs, with up to 0.563 TFLOPs or 563 GFLOPs of computing capability.

This benchmark test was conducted with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPU and 64 GB of DDR5 memory. It appears that the memory was running in a quad-DIMM configuration, which lowers the transfer rate to 3600 Mbps. As a result, we can anticipate slightly better performance from a tailored DDR5 kit operating at rates of between 5600 and 6400.

The “GFX1036” Device ID belongs to the AMD Ryzen 7000 iGPU, which achieved a score of 8210 on the Geekbench 5 OpenCL test.

For contrast, the same benchmark yields 7003 points for a Vega 6 GPU with 6 Compute Units built on the current 7nm architecture, while the Vega 8 GPU with 8 Compute Units can achieve 8000–8500 points. The graphics cores in that IO die are not many, the purpose of adding graphics is three-fold. One, it greatly expands these products in the commercial market where they don’t buy discrete at all, they just want to turn it on, have video encode/decode and light up some displays for office work and that’s what the GPU in the IO die will offer so that’s a huge business opportunity for us on the Ryzen PRO side as we start migrating these components over to that business.

The second is for diagnostic purposes, how do you know that you have a bad graphics card? Well, you have to swap in another graphics card but with the graphics core we have, you can do a little bit of troubleshooting thirdly, we were thinking about users who are planning to buy a discrete graphics, and it’s still in transit in the mail but all the other hardware has arrived first so it’s all sat there, looking at a pile of components and don’t have a GPU to actually set that all up. That would go away with the Ryzen 7000 series.

We are still going to do APUs with big graphics so APUs ‘BIG GRAPHICS’, CPUs ‘little graphics’. That would be our strategy going forward.

Neeraj Chopra becomes the first Indian to win the Diamond League finals

India’s golden boy Neeraj Chopra created a new record by winning the finale of Diamond League 2022 in Zurich on Thursday. He won it and his best attempt was 88.44.

He became the first Indian to bag the Diamond League Trophy in the men’s javelin series. The 24-year-old javelin star threw 88.44m to fish on the top spot.

He left Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch and Germany’s Julian Webber behind to script history. Initially, he didn’t have a good start and Vadlejch took the lead in the first attempt with an 84.15m throw. In the second attempt, Neeraj Chopra threw the javelin at a distance of 88.44m and none of the contestants could beat this. In the third, fourth, fifth and final attempt, he threw at a distance of 88.00m, 86.11m, 87.00m, and 83.60m respectively.

It’s a proud moments for Indians as Neeraj Chopra is the first Indian to win the prestigious Diamond trophy in the finale. Earlier, he finished in the 7th position in 2017 and in the 4th position in 2018.

“I always thought the Diamond League (Finals) was a big competition. The trophy should be there in India, and finally that happened last night,” he said at a virtual press conference.

Further he added, “I want more athletes from India to compete in top tournaments, lot of team from other countries were participating in the Diamond League Finals. It will help them in terms of experience too.” 

In 2023, he will be competing to defend his Asian Games gold medal and World Championships in Budapest where he’ll have the opportunity to win a gold.

Neeraj also stated the problem with high expectations from Indians after he won his World Championships silver and not gold.
