Amazon drops bomb on rumors of it Buying EA

According to sources cited by CNBC on Friday, Amazon.com Inc is not anticipated to make a bid for Electronic Arts Inc (EA.O), disproving a previous rumour that the online retailer would do so today.

Following the USA Today article on Amazon’s buyout offer for the owner of “FIFA” and “Apex Legends,” EA shares increased 15% in premarket trading. Early trading saw a 4% increase in the stock, giving the business a market value of almost $37 billion.

As far as rumours and M&A speculation go, Amazon and EA said they don’t comment. With around $37 billion in cash on hand, Amazon has begun looking for acquisitions to expand its company outside cloud computing and e-commerce under the leadership of new CEO Andy Jassy.

Just weeks after deciding to purchase primary healthcare provider One Medical for $3.5 billion, the business made an offer earlier this month to purchase Roomba manufacturer iRobot Corp for $1.7 billion.

Twitch’s owner, Amazon, also paid $8.5 billion to acquire MGM Studios, the company behind the “Rocky” and “James Bond” films.

According to analysts, EA is a desirable choice for digital firms trying to catch the attention of a younger audience because of its robust licences, intellectual property rights, and capacity to create new games in the metaverse.

Bets on the metaverse had also been the driving force behind Microsoft Corp.’s $68.7 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard Inc., the company behind “Call of Duty” and an EA competitor.

As the pandemic-driven increase in demand ebbs, the latest deals are also erasing the distinction between personal computer and mobile gaming companies and coming against the backdrop of a faltering global gaming industry.

According to research firm Newzoo’s data, the worldwide gaming market is only predicted to expand by 2% in 2022 compared to the previous year, a sharp decline from the 23% growth seen in 2020.

EA predicted disappointing adjusted sales figures, claiming that it was not “totally immune” to the recession. Prior to Thursday’s closure, its shares had dropped by around 3%, as opposed to Take-nearly Two’s 30% decline.

This time, someone supposedly revealed the specifications and performance numbers of Intel’s 65W Core i9-13900 processor by posting benchmark results to the Geekbench 5 database (via @BenchLeaks). Take the numbers with a grain of salt for the time being.

With eight high-performance Raptor Cove cores with Hyper-Threading (optimised Golden Cove cores) and 16 energy-efficient Gracemont cores without simultaneous multithreading, the Intel Core i9-13900 is a fully-fledged Raptor Lake silicon chip that can handle up to 32 threads at once. In contrast, the Intel Core i9-12900 can handle up to 24 threads at once because it contains eight Golden Cove and eight Gracemont cores.

The Core i9-13900 CPU from Intel appears to have more energy-efficient cores than the Core i9-12900.

Its performance in multi-threaded applications is considerably impacted by this, although it also has significantly higher turbo clocks for the performance cores—5576 MHz vs. 5081 MHz. This would suggest a pronounced advantage in workloads with only one thread.

The new 65W Raptor Lake CPU looks to outperform the 65W Alder Lake processor on Geekbench 5’s single-core integer and single-core floating point workloads by 17% and 12%, respectively, because to its high turbo clocks and a larger L3 cache.

At least according to a synthetic benchmark, the new CPU appears to be 9.6% faster in integer and 15% faster in floating point workloads when it comes to multi-thread workloads.

Barcelona have finally registered Jules Kounde with La Liga, following his signing from Sevilla. The centre-back can now make his competitive debut for the Blaugrana, and he is expected to make the squad against Real Valladolid today. 

Due to their financial constraints, Barcelona needed to make a few sales in order to register the Frenchman. At this stage, they have not been able to achieve that, but have somehow registered Kounde with the league so that they can play him in their competitive games.

If he wasn’t registered by August 31, Kounde would’ve been able to leave the club as a free agent. But, that will not happen anymore since he has finally been registered as a new Barcelona player. 

The club is now expected to complete the signing of Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso in the coming days. The Spaniard will also be registered prior to the deadline, since a deal has already been agreed with the Premier League club for his signing. 

Barcelona are one of Europe’s top spenders this summer, despite being unable to pay their existing players wages. They have signed Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie with the last two arriving on a free transfer.

According to the newest leaker on the block, @QbitLeaks, NVIDIA’s upcoming mainstream GeForce RTX 4060 Ti & RTX 4060 graphics cards have apparently been tested. The sweet spot price range for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti and RTX 4060 will be between $300 and $500 US. On the most recent Ada Lovelace graphics architecture, these two graphics cards are anticipated to be released.

Now, the leaks are from a brand-new leaker, whose reliability is as of yet unknown, but I suppose everyone starts somewhere. So let’s look at the specifications that @QbitLeaks or FCL have provided for us. Remember that these are all just rumours, so treat them with caution.

According to reports, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti uses the AD104-180-A1 GPU core, which has 6144 FP32 cores or 48 SMs. In comparison to the entire chip, which delivers 60 SMs or 7680 cores overall, it is a 20% reduction in SM units.

Samsung will continue to use AMD’s RDNA designs for its future built-in GPUs, the consumer electronics giant announced on Thursday, despite the Xclipse 920 integrated graphics processing unit’s underwhelming performance relative to expectations. Even though ray tracing is not its finest suit, AMD’s Radeon RX 6000 range of GPUs, based on the RDNA 2 architecture, is without a doubt the company’s most competitive GPU lineup in many years.

“We plan to continue to implement other features in the RDNA series by working closely with AMD going forward,” said Sungboem Park, a vice president of Samsung who oversees GPU development. “In general, mobile tends to lag around five years or so behind consoles when it comes to graphics technology, however, we were able to incorporate the latest console technologies in the Exynos 2200 mobile processor quickly through our collaboration with AMD. 

However, neither in compute nor graphics workloads did Samsung’s Exynos 2200 system-on-chip for smartphones, which is based on the same architecture, particularly shine with the Xclipse 920 graphics processor. As the head of Qualcomm recently announced, Samsung signed a contract with Qualcomm to use its Snapdragon SoCs with Adreno graphics for its forthcoming Galaxy S-series smartphones globally (ComputerBase first noticed this). Ironically, Eric Demers, a former GPU architect at AMD, ATI, and ArtX, has been in charge of Qualcomm’s Adreno (a play on the name Radeon).

Currently, Samsung sells its Galaxy S smartphones in Asia and the US using Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon SoCs, while devices marketed in Europe use its own Exynos SoCs.

The new agreement permits Samsung to employ Exynos for Galaxy S handsets sold in Europe, but it does not mandate that it do so. As a result, Samsung might not use Exynos if it has an Exynos SoC with a competitive CPU and GPU implementation.

However, Samsung is undoubtedly taking precautions with its selection of SoCs and GPUs because, according to Qualcomm, it also plans to use Snapdragons for other mobile products.

The actual implementation is very important, even if AMD’s RDNA designs are feature-rich and scalable in terms of performance, power, and die size. A GPU realisation depends on a variety of variables, including design choices, cost, process technology, the engineering team’s knowledge in general and with a certain GPU architecture in particular. Therefore, Samsung may eventually develop a competitive RDNA-based integrated GPU, but not until its engineers have gained general GPU development experience, which they can only do by continuing to develop graphics processors.

The video, which has gone viral on the internet, shows the Chakan facility, which the business claims has world-class production capabilities and cutting-edge technology, as well as the procedure by which the brand’s latest SUV Scorpio-N is built. Mahindra also has plants at Zaheerabad, Haridwar, Nashik, and Kandivali.
